Hi,

Is it correct that TWS RADAR gate size can not be changed with HOTAS RIGHT?

It works with RWS mode, but not TWS. Instead, the MFD button must be pressed.

Yup, if you look at the HOTAS keybinds Page S2 right wont do anything in TWS, it’s suppossed to be that way

Thanks! I read it worked that way but wasn't sure. :thumbup:

Is it intended, that S2 right does nothing for TWS? It feels weird to have a HOTAS button that does nothing in this mode, even though it would be intuitive if it had the same function in all modes.

The topic has come up a few times and it’s always been said to be intended. I thought also a typo at first. Along with the new RWS modes it make differentiating between RWS and TWS even more difficult. What is the design philosophy of choosing one over the other? One has more vertical room but less horizontal room, I can’t figure it out

TWS is set up the way it is because it is a TIME-CONSTANT SCAN MODE.

If it scans a wider area, it uses lower bar count to have the same scan time. This is generally true across RADAR systems due to target tracking.

Thing is, it’s RWS that has a wider scan with less elevation coverage and more bar overlap. TWS has less azimuth, but less bar overlap so it covers more vertically. So you could say RWS is scanning a slightly smaller but wider area more thoroughly

Interesting. I thought the bars were the same size.

SAM now have 2 sub mode implemented:NAM/ASM, and SAM mode will command the radar to do a spot scan on HPT & SPT on every frame to increase the accuracy of tracking(the addon spot scan pattern and FCR animation is currently under construction).

In NAM, you can command a 30deg 4bar scan pattern if you like.

TWS can provide a 25deg 3bar scan pattern(EL coverage smaller than RWS 4bar), but it have a better SA on FCR.

TWS can not switch AZ by hotas, the real manual says it works that way, so be it.

Hi,

I want to update my BVR Training mission to incorporate this change, however the Quick Guide included on the /doc folder is outdated and has no useful info about this

... can you please provide a little more information about these NAM and ASM submodes? how you go from one to the other? what are the practical use of each sub-mode?

Thanks a lot,

Eduardo

Edit: Nevermind, found the answer on the changelog:

Added radar SAM sub mode ASM/NAM:

if hpt is designated in RWS (radar mode into SAM), pilot can cycle ASM/NAM SAM sub mode by HOTAS/key S2_Left ;

Code:

NAM: pilot have to set radar scan az and line manually;ASM: radar scan az and line is set automatic, cannot manually set by pilot. hpt range > 20nm, 30.0 degrees, 2 line; hpt range <= 20nm, 15.0 degrees, 4 line;
