I used to play Flanker too. It was really well made even if there were other sims with textured objects those days. Graphic was not a priority. Flanker has incredible, never felt flight model in any other game. All menu using OS windows made a feeling of professional military sim. I remember track called Kvoczur or Pugachov. It's funny we like to reach the past with our mind while waiting for new product. 'How fast these things changes'? Im sure DCS will be a big step forward. How long?

Not only that I played it but but I'll keep forever the Su-27 Flanker and Flanker 2.0 CDs on my shelf.

It would be great to go back to that OS style UI. It was clean and simple.

But most gamers what their games to look like games and not a computer running the Base OS. Which is too bad.

My mission is to fly, fight, and win. o-:|:-o What I do is sometimes get a tin of soup, heat it up, poach an egg in it, serve that with a pork pie sausage roll.

cc that...I started with Flanker 1.0.

Back then I was big into Hornet Mac...Flanker was the first PC sim for me that offered a

'hi-res' cockpit from a graphics fidelity standpoint, while offering a pan-able cockpit viewing

system with operational gauges.

I never played the original, but I played 2.0, 2.5, & 2.51. Sometimes I wish ED would make a modern version of 2.51 using the Lockon graphics but keeping the fictious multirole Flanker, just for playability and compatability purpose. But what are the chances of that happening?

I've seen videos of Flanker 1.0 and it looks like it was pretty amazing. You can tell the flight model is above and beyond what its contemporaries had.

I started off with 2.0, which was the sim which got me addicted :)

After that, I had 2.5, Lockon Alpha, Lockon, Flaming Cliffs (both Russian and English versions), and now patiently waiting for Black Shark.

I have played several other sims in the meantime, but none could keep me entertained as much as the Flanker series does.

It all started with Flanker 2.5 for me...

DCS Wishlist: 1) FIX THE DAMN RIVERS!!! 2) Spherical or cylindrical panorama view projection. 3) Enhanced input options (action upon button release, etc). 4) Aircraft flight parameter dump upon exit (stick posn, attitude, rates, accel, control volume, control-surface positions, SAS bias, etc). 5) ADS-33 maneuver courses as static objects. 6) Exposed API or exports of trim position and stick force for custom controllers. 7) Select auto multiple audio devices

AFAIK there are still some people that worked for Flanker 1.0 in ED Team. One probably has left ED (those days SSI) to USA working for MS Flight Simulator.

About DOS Box:

Read manual/readme again. IIRC You need to make a folder on i.ex. C: disk. Then by writing exact instructions in cmd you point where is that folder on C: drive that will become a virtual cd drive. Can't help You with writing exact instruction 'cuz I simple don't remember. Read manual again. It is not so complicated.

DCS - new name?

The acronym DCS appeared in the intro movie of Flanker 2, standing for Digital Combat Series.

The movies, although present in bik format, were dehabilited by the 2.5 patch.

With a software, you could convert them to avi format, and when playing Flanker 2.51, the movies appeared again.

The "old school" guys probably know all these things.

Yeah, I remember those. I was using the blue flight suit mod in Lockon because I remembered those little pilots running to their Flankers in the opening movie (despite the pilot in the sim having a tan or grey suit).

I bought Flanker 2 after few hours in Falcon 4. I couldn't believe that theres practicaly no radio commands and were keep looking for any info on that matter for a long time:doh:

Typically - high fidelity fligh model without much else to get hands on.

Oh, and THE "Flanker 2 internal error" :censored:*;)
