Several of the single missions and the first mission of the campaign initially require the player to intercept hostile aircraft and escort them out of the area under ROE weapons hold unless maneuvered or fired on. How do we do that in DCS? Do we just fly in their direction and wait for further orders? What do we do if the hostiles try to continue past towards their original objective without maneuvering on us or trying to fire before we get further orders? It would be great if someone could explain how to handle this type of mission, I have searched but came up empty.

EDIT: I thank Kaba and all our mission creators for giving us these missions, I’m not complaining we have them, just trying to work out how to approach a mission type I haven’t done before

Just like IRL. Wait for the order "weapons hot" and react if fired upon. Enemy will either bug out or fight. If no orders come just fly formation with them and try to remember why they are called "Backfire" ;)

Pull up and id keep a lock on them. Depending on how often you mess up maybe a safety.

Anyways first time I ever did the intercept bear mission it didnt fight. I intercepted and escorted the bear away.

The 2nd time.. the bastard opened fire on the CVG. He was dead in 1.5 seconds

Haha roger that. Ok, so just fly to/with them until told otherwise, I can do that. Thanks for the clear advice :pilotfly:

Good to know one possible outcome is that they simply leave without incident, I'll make sure to keep a close eye, but that's good advice about being safe with the master arm, cheers

Npi was pleased therw wwre muktiple outcomes

The first time with no incident was one of the very first flights in the F14. It was really cool even though no action - I thought it was just realistically depicting one of the tens of thousands of tu95 intercepts I heard about.

The 2nd time 9 months later the fighting WAS VERY unexpected. All the sudden tbe bomber locked me! I swerved over to the side and he opened his bomb bay doors. I was a little unsure and I saw a cruise missile come out and I spammed him with sidewinders lol.

1. Fly next to them

2. Head gesture them to go away

3. Show them your belly (that of your jet ofc) so they can see your weapons

4. Fly in front of them and shoot a flare

5. Get a lock on them

6. Ask for permission to engage

If they are armed, you might want to skip Step 4 ;)
