chase Posted May 31, 2020 Posted May 31, 2020 So i set up a quick JTAC miz. Using the T-Pod to find the laser. I press the LSS button and the tgt pod goes to a dark screen and doesn't appear to be scanning anything. Maybe the steps have changed?. Master arm was on and all pod switches were on. Maybe there is a new step to take before turning on / boxing lss? Thanks, Dave
Tholozor Posted May 31, 2020 Posted May 31, 2020 The pod still scans, just nothing displays. If you go to an external camera and observe the pod, you can see the seeker head looking around. Ah ok. So i should maybe wait a few seconds before aborting the scan. I thought maybe it would be instantaneous. Thank you for the help. I'll try again.
Tholozor Posted May 31, 2020 Posted May 31, 2020 If it still gives you trouble, you may have to change the size of the scan volume with the option on OSB 6 (toggles Wide and Narrow FOV scan while LSS is running), depending on how close the seeker is to the designation point at the time of activation. If the seeker is already close, it's usually pretty quick. I'll try again. Definitely not instantaneous. The FLIR still has a fairly narrow field of view, even on Wide and zoomed all the way out. When you initiate LSS, the pod begins scanning side to side in horizontal bars, much like the radar does, until it detects a laser spot of the appropriate code. It will typically detect the spot more quickly the closer the spot is to the nose of the aircraft when the search is started. Oil In The Water Hornet Campaign. chase Posted May 31, 2020 Author Posted May 31, 2020 Very good info. I didn't know you could set the sweep zone. Cool. Thanks to you all. Dave
