Weta43 Posted February 3, 2008 Posted February 3, 2008 Got your paper bags ready ? As a Wellingtonian that flies (as a pasenger) into & out of Wellington fairly regularly, it seems to me that the take offs and landings (& low speed, low altitude flight generaly) in LO/FC - esp given the 2 planes with great AFM's - were missing something, and I just stumbled across a vid that nicely captures what it is : (Landings at Wellington airport) Seems to me it would add a lot to fixed wing landings - & trying to hover near terrain, buildings & (when they become collidable) trees ... 2 Cheers.
Avimimus Posted February 4, 2008 Posted February 4, 2008 Er. Can't you set cross winds and gusts in Lomac? Mind you, it would be nice to have a complex weather model (wind effected by hills, updrafts etc.) like the one that Oleg is apparently working on...
Weta43 Posted February 4, 2008 Author Posted February 4, 2008 Er. Can't you set cross winds and gusts in Lomac? No - you can set an absolutely Constant wind & a degree of very transient buffeting (turbulence). Because the wind is absolutely constant, and the turbulence nets to nothing, once you've got the adjustment for the amount of drift caused by the wind right you can essentially just set a steady deflection on the stick & land as usual from there. If you were clever you could get lined up 10km out & not have to move the stick or throttle again till you touched down. Cheers.
VMFA117_Poko Posted February 4, 2008 Posted February 4, 2008 I wonder if it is too complicated to do in DCS... Devs? Can we get this please? Such important thing may extend the release, i could come to therms with it. But i probably know the answer - not with old engine :/
Fjordmonkey Posted February 4, 2008 Posted February 4, 2008 Would be awesome, yeah. Have been flying a lot here in Norway, and some of the turbulence I've experienced makes a rollercoaster seem like a walk in the park. Would be awesome to have this in DCS as well. Regards Fjordmonkey Clustermunitions is just another way of saying that you don't like someone. I used to like people, then people ruined that for me.
EvilBivol-1 Posted February 5, 2008 Posted February 5, 2008 Although I don't have any official feedback about the possibility of such a feature, I can at least tell you it was also brought up on the beta tester's wish list a few months a go. You're definitely not alone. We'll see... 1 - EB [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] Nothing is easy. Everything takes much longer. The Parable of Jane's A-10 Forum Rules
Weta43 Posted February 5, 2008 Author Posted February 5, 2008 I can at least tell you it was also brought up on the beta tester's wish list a few months a go. Just out of curiosity EB, was 'a few months ago' 10-04-2005 ? Doesn't time fly ? http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?p=110618 post 2 Cheers.
EvilBivol-1 Posted February 5, 2008 Posted February 5, 2008 Not at all. Yours truly brought the issue up on the beta forum soon after that Knights of the Sky video was released. :) - EB [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] Nothing is easy. Everything takes much longer. The Parable of Jane's A-10 Forum Rules
Weta43 Posted February 5, 2008 Author Posted February 5, 2008 No offence meant - there's this thing 'memory telescoping' where people bring memories forward - happened six months ago, seems like just the other day - happens to me all the time & (so they said at varsity) a big problem for police interviewing possible witnesses. I remembered GG saying he'd linked that thread to the Beta Tester's forum back then & wondered if that 'few months' was realy a couple of years & you'd get a surprise when you checked back... bit twilight zone-ish Anyway - Good to know someone with ED's ear is keeping the subject alive. Cheers.

Bucic Posted February 5, 2008 Posted February 5, 2008 Great work, Weta43! You didn't actually produce a piece of code but you make at least part of ED team discuss it :) Rep inbound. A proper approach to simulation - knowledge, discussion on modeling solution, eagerness to make it happen. P.S. I often criticize ED for making their products somewhat sterile, but I have to say that no other dev company I know has such a good contact with community members. Maybe except of XSI (FighterOps) and GMX Media (Battle of Britain 2) ;) It is a good idea not to keep dev and beta testers members in cages but letting them work also as contact cell instead. CAT_101st Posted February 5, 2008 Posted February 5, 2008 I say let thim finish what they have and get it out to us. then ask for more in the next update. CAT_101st Posted February 6, 2008 Posted February 6, 2008 The problem I have with gusting wind is it is a seat of you pants and hands’ feeling that just does not transfer threw the screen. Unless you have a motion pit or a force feedback joystick one can not really get the grasp of what is happening to the aircraft. Other than what the gauges and screen tell you. Now if you just want a cross wind on landing that is one thing but to have dynamic weather during a entire flight is another. Unless the person playing the sim has a way to feel what is happing to him, it is a lost add on and could hurt sails of the game. The needs of the many out weigh the needs of the few. "Spock" :v: My two cents:harhar: Home built PC Win 10 Pro 64bit, MB ASUS Z170 WS, 6700K, EVGA 1080Ti Hybrid, 32GB DDR4 3200, Thermaltake 120x360 RAD, Custom built A-10C sim pit, TM WARTHOG HOTAS, Cougar MFD's, 3D printed UFC and Saitek rudders. Weta43 Posted February 6, 2008 Author Posted February 6, 2008 First - the idea I had was that gusts would be customisable by the user on a mission by mission basis - much as fog or full clouds (which also make missions for users with weaker machines almost unplayable), so no-one's needs are being made to outweigh anyone else's... Second - you catch the AFM planes as they start to flip at excess AOA's don't you ? Or stalls - without that seat of the pants thing! I think you'd notice gusts in exactly the same way & react to them too... Cheers.
