Snakeice Posted June 2, 2020 Posted June 2, 2020 Hi, I was wondering what the purpose of the IP waypoint was. Can it be used for CMTR IP? Or is it just another Thank you Nemo me impune Laecessit
legearre Posted June 2, 2020 Posted June 2, 2020 IP has been around since at least ww2, it’s the last waypoint prior to the target and sets you on the desired strike vector. That said, use it however desired, the 14 doesn’t hold a lot of them. I typically use defended point as bulls
Snakeice Posted June 2, 2020 Author Posted June 2, 2020 Thank you for your clarification. So it has nothing to do with the cmptr IP? Nemo me impune Laecessit
RustBelt Posted June 2, 2020 Posted June 2, 2020 It can if you are using it for bombing. Then you need to actually use it as a reference point you mark to refine the INS system position prior to attack. Like setting up CCRP you have to move the target box to it and designate it, so choose something you'll easily be able to see from the air. Usually used when the actual target may NOT be that easy to see from the air, so you can basically Bomb by INS with less imprecision as just using the Surface target point with all the INS drift you accumulated since alignment. Pinball and Pac-Man level technology!
Jedrzej Posted June 3, 2020 Posted June 3, 2020 Hi, I was wondering what the purpose of the IP waypoint was. Can it be used for CMTR IP? Or is it just another Thank you In F14 times was not GPS. moving maps like A-10C, Hornet, so IP was special Point on route, The Pilot could see from air. From that point he has knew where is the targed, or where begen hostaile area.
Shaemus ODonnelly Posted June 3, 2020 Posted June 3, 2020 As the others have stated, you are supposed to update your INS prior to the attack run with the IP. The Kitty only has INS guidance and small measuring errors that all sensors are prone to add up over time, so the INS gets less accurate in flight, which can mess up your bombing. By locking up the IP and the RIO doing some magic in the back, the plane can measure its distance and velocity to the IP accurately with the radar, therefore it is able to reset its INS to be accurate again. It can also be used in offset bombing. Basically, the JTAC gives you IP coordinates and BRA from IP to target which the RIO can enter into the computer. Once you lock the IP, the bomb fall line and pipper will guide you to a Computer Target bombing run on the target from there. This is useful if you can not see the target because it is hidden, but you need to be able to see the IP.

So I've only to insert Bra from the ip target in the cap end thd coordinate given by jtac in IP waypoint? I've understand right? It looks too good! Nemo me impune Laecessit
IronMike Posted June 4, 2020 Posted June 4, 2020 Just a small correction: the Tomcat's IP is "initial point" and has nothing to do with "ingress point" which could be any pre briefed waypoint, landmark or similar. IP does as Shaemus stated above. Mainly it was used for bombing targets relative to a known and visible landmark, for example a church tower, etc etc. Heatblur Simulations Please feel free to contact me anytime, either via PM here, on the forums, or via email through the contact form on our homepage. http://www.heatblur.com/ https://www.facebook.com/heatblur/

Xenovia Posted June 5, 2020 Posted June 5, 2020 Personally, I use it as a waypoint, because the Tomcat only has 3 waypoints i can see on the TID, despite having up to 10 waypoints on some of the missions I fly on. [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
IronMike Posted June 7, 2020 Posted June 7, 2020 Personally, I use it as a waypoint, because the Tomcat only has 3 waypoints i can see on the TID, despite having up to 10 waypoints on some of the missions I fly on. On top of your 3 dest points, you have fixed point, surface target and home base. so 6 that you can see on your TID and HSD. Naturally if many were needed, RIOs would simply change 1,2,3 as well and punch in new coordinates. Jester can do that easily for you, too. Quickest way by placing a map marker. Additionally if you set more than 3 waypoints in the mission editor, waypoints 4 and higher are listed with coordinates in your kneeboard.
