Just when I thought I was done......

Well I decided to try and build a switch box. I. Pretty good with electrical stuff and soldering but I can’t cut a piece of lexan or metal to save my life !

Has anybody found a metal (or other material) suitable for building switches ? Not worried about the color since i can always paint it, measurement would be approximately 10 by 7 inches, with about a 2 1/2 inch height. I can’t find anything useable anywhere !

Also, I have searched high and low for momentary metal switches . Not push down, but switches like a toggle switch that bounce back to the off position. If anyone can point me in the right direction I would appreciate it !

Thanks

For my Racecar I use 18 Gauge Aluminum.

You need 4 main things, A drill and a set of step drill bits.

A hand nibbler

Sand Paper, a File or a Deburring tool. (those cut edges is SHARP!)

and a combination square

Beyond that you start wanting to think about a pop rivet tool, some sheet metal bending pliers, and of course Self Etching Primer and some paint.

And then go super nuts and silk screen your own white on clear water transfer decals because you're a crazy person who collects hobbies as a hobby.

For switches, Best place is MOUSER.

You want the Carling, or the cheaper Honeywell Toggle switches.

Momentary is denoted by () like (ON) - OFF, or (ON) - OFF - (ON), or (ON2) - ON1 - OFF, or gods own (ON) - OFF - NONE (so pricey, but most real planes only use the half throw switches, so snappy, so expensive) etcetera.
