sirrah Posted June 17, 2020 Posted June 17, 2020 This is probably something simple. Maybe someone can help me out? I placed this group of units (see screenshot), but no matter how close I get, they won't fire at me. I don't even get a RWR signal of the radar picking me up. Also tried the other two radar trucks, but no change System specs: i7-8700K @stock speed - GTX 1080TI @ stock speed - AsRock Extreme4 Z370 - 32GB DDR4 @3GHz- 500GB SSD - 2TB nvme - 650W PSU HP Reverb G1 v2 - Saitek Pro pedals - TM Warthog HOTAS - TM F/A-18 Grip - TM Cougar HOTAS (NN-Dan mod) & (throttle standalone mod) - VIRPIL VPC Rotor TCS Plus with ALPHA-L grip - Pointctrl & aux banks <-- must have for VR users!! - Andre's SimShaker Jetpad - Fully adjustable DIY playseat - VA+VAICOM - Realsimulator FSSB-R3 ~ That nuke might not have been the best of ideas, Sir... the enemy is furious ~ GUMMBAH
ChillNG Posted June 17, 2020 Posted June 17, 2020 Hard to tell from the pics but have you got all the required units in the battery, there are 5 units to add. SAM HAWK PCP SAM HAWK SR SAM HAWK TR SAM HAWK CWAR SAM HAWK LN (launcher) Not 100% but believe you need all 5 to make sure it works correctly, you can have multiple launchers if you want. Make sure all are in the same group and that you haven't inadvertently set an advanced way-point action of weapons hold. Just tested the above against an A-10 at angels 10 and it worked fine.
dark_wood Posted June 17, 2020 Posted June 17, 2020 I think you missed to add some units - Hawk SR and Hawk TR - try to add all units that start with SAM HAWK and place them in same group
sirrah Posted June 17, 2020 Author Posted June 17, 2020 Ahh ok, I thought I could choose whether to use the AN/MPQ-46, -50 or -55, but do I understand correctly that I need to place all these units in order to get it working? I'll try and give that a go later today System specs: i7-8700K @stock speed - GTX 1080TI @ stock speed - AsRock Extreme4 Z370 - 32GB DDR4 @3GHz- 500GB SSD - 2TB nvme - 650W PSU HP Reverb G1 v2 - Saitek Pro pedals - TM Warthog HOTAS - TM F/A-18 Grip - TM Cougar HOTAS (NN-Dan mod) & (throttle standalone mod) - VIRPIL VPC Rotor TCS Plus with ALPHA-L grip - Pointctrl & aux banks <-- must have for VR users!! - Andre's SimShaker Jetpad - Fully adjustable DIY playseat - VA+VAICOM - Realsimulator FSSB-R3 ~ That nuke might not have been the best of ideas, Sir... the enemy is furious ~ GUMMBAH

sirrah Posted June 19, 2020 Author Posted June 19, 2020 I tried using all the Hawk units yesterday and yes, it is working. but.. After destroying one unit (forgot to properly check which one ) the SAM site was still actively shooting at me. So it seems that one of the Hawk units is optional. Does anyone know which units are required for Hawk SAM operation? (I mean, I assume I should be able to make the SAM site inactive with only one HARM missile, right?) ChillNG Posted June 19, 2020 Posted June 19, 2020 I'm far from an expert in these things but I am making an educated guess that if the DCS model is accurate to real life it's the TR (track radar) that guides the weapon. So kill that and the missiles can't guide. However the SR & CWAR (search radar/continuous wave acquisition radar) can still track you and pass your target info on to others in the IADS network and you'll still get spiked by on your RWR. How accurately this is modelled though I'm not sure.
sirrah Posted June 20, 2020 Author Posted June 20, 2020 Did some more testing: You need to place both SAM HAWK SR and SAM HAWK TR, to make them fire at you. I didn't use the SAM HAWK CWAR Without either the SR or TR, they won't fire at you However, and hopefully someone here can explain how this is possible, when you kill the SR, the SAM site keeps locking me and firing at me. When you kill the TR first, the SAM site seems inactive System specs: i7-8700K @stock speed - GTX 1080TI @ stock speed - AsRock Extreme4 Z370 - 32GB DDR4 @3GHz- 500GB SSD - 2TB nvme - 650W PSU HP Reverb G1 v2 - Saitek Pro pedals - TM Warthog HOTAS - TM F/A-18 Grip - TM Cougar HOTAS (NN-Dan mod) & (throttle standalone mod) - VIRPIL VPC Rotor TCS Plus with ALPHA-L grip - Pointctrl & aux banks <-- must have for VR users!! - Andre's SimShaker Jetpad - Fully adjustable DIY playseat - VA+VAICOM - Realsimulator FSSB-R3 ~ That nuke might not have been the best of ideas, Sir... the enemy is furious ~ GUMMBAH
norbot Posted June 20, 2020 Posted June 20, 2020 I would suggest using the "Create and modify templates" function in the mission editor. There you can choose the "Hawk SAM Battery" with a fully funcional set of vehicles.

I believe the SR obtains an initial target solution in a more 'low res' but wider field of view, this data is then passed to a higher res TR which is more focused and suitable for precise weapon guidance. In theory I guess that if you knock out the SR the TR is still capable of locating and engaging you, but will have a harder time aquiring you initially without the SR assisting. In DCS with AI control though I don't know how this will play out.
