Gpruitt54 Posted July 31, 2020 Posted July 31, 2020 It has been years since I have bothered to try any DCS Open Beta products. But, I bought the Supper Carrier, which only works on 2.5.6 on higher. So, I must install the Open Beta in order to use the module. The DCS Updater 2.10.2.42 is stalled. It has been running for 6 hours. The progress bar is sweeping with the message "updating myself..." I am unable to cancel the install process, and the install does not seem to be doing anything. What do I do?
Flappie Posted July 31, 2020 Posted July 31, 2020 You don't need to install open beta to enjoy your Super Carrier module. The stable/release version has it already. If you still want to install open beta, please attach your dcs_autoupdate.log. You will find it at the root of DCS open beta main folder. ---

On the DCS website the newer modules, including the Super Carrier says it needs 2.5.6. I looked in the module manager and I don't see the Super Carrier. How do I access it with my 2.5.5 version of DCS.
Flappie Posted July 31, 2020 Posted July 31, 2020 You're supposed to be asked for an update as soon as you launch the stable version. If you don't have this message, you can force the update by launching the command: \DCS\bin\dcs_updater.exe update See here for complete info: https://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=114030 Are you a DCS Updater GUI Utility user? This might explain the absence of update message. You can also force the update using this software. ---

Yes, I have a version of the updater utility installed from some time ago. It was installed in an attempt to fix something. The updater utility never did what it was supposed to do. But, I left the software on the system. I am not an expert in DCS at least where it comes to fixing things like this. My prior experience with tweaking things in DCS has (in every case) resulted in a completely broken software installation requiring a complete reinstall of DCS and all its modules. Is there a simpler way of getting where I need to go? What if I uninstall the updater utility? Might that prompt the update request you mentioned?
FlankerD Posted August 1, 2020 Posted August 1, 2020 No more update, can't reach DCS Update Servers Hello, Since a week now I'm unable to update my DCS Installations, both Release and OpenBeta. Here is the log of the OpenBeta but it's the same for the Release. Sometimes, with a VPN, it start to work and then after a few Megabytes, I still get "Timeout was reached" My ISP is "Free". It looks a bit like when the 2.x was release. No more Torrent and time out on HTTP. 00000.079 --- Log file: D:\Games\Eagle Dynamics\DCS World OpenBeta\autoupdate_log.txt 00000.000 === Log opened UTC 2020-07-28 16:57:47 00000.021 INFO : DCS_Updater/2.10.2.42 (Windows NT 10.0.19041; Gpruitt54 Posted August 1, 2020 Author Posted August 1, 2020 For as long as I have been a user of DCS products, I have learned one thing above all. Once it is working, DO NOT tweak it. I purchased Super Carrier several months ago. I cannot play it because it will not run on my 2.5.5 version of DCS. I am extremely afraid to force it to update. In following others recommendation, I have broken the game.
Flappie Posted August 1, 2020 Posted August 1, 2020 Is there a simpler way of getting where I need to go? What if I uninstall the updater utility? Might that prompt the update request you mentioned? The most reliable way and quickest way to update your stable version is to use the command line tool described in my previous post. Trust me. ---
Gpruitt54 Posted August 1, 2020 Author Posted August 1, 2020 In my experience, the command line has clobbered many a working version of DCS. This has happened 4 times previously, and I will not do that again. I should not have to. Case in point. Last night, I forced the updater to update 2.5.5. I let me run over night. This morning I woke to discover that the process had completed. I double clicked the DCS icon and was informed that the location referenced in the shortcut did not exists. WTF! Once again, I followed advice to allow an update procedure to fix a problem and once again, I have no working game files. The problem is that I did not follow my past experiences I shouldn't have messed a perfectly working version of the game, out or date or not. This marks the 5th time this has happened. This is ridiculous. I play several games and this is the only one what routinely trashes itself in the process of updating the GD game files. There are so many threads referencing issues like mine. Clearly, there is a problem with this software that is not being addressed.
Flappie Posted August 1, 2020 Posted August 1, 2020 Don't panic, you're almost there. Locate your DCS main folder, and go into \bin\. All DCS executables are here. Launch dcs_updater.exe (this time whithout any parameter) and your game should start. You can then create a shortcut and place it in your Desktop. ---

But as of now, is looks as if the updater has killed my stable 2.5.5 build and is now creating the folder and files structure for the Open Beta only. My intent was to keep the stable 2.5.5 and install the additional Open Beta 2.5.6. It will be several hours before I can be definitive on this. Edited August 1, 2020 by Gpruitt54
Gpruitt54 Posted August 2, 2020 Author Posted August 2, 2020 You know what they say that insanity is doing the same thing over and over and expecting a different outcome. So, somehow I expected that at the end of another updater session I expected the find a functioning version of DCS World. The end of the update displayed an exception error and a 2.5.6 version of DCS, but with none of my modules installed. The game opens as 2.5.6, just with no working modules. AGAIN!
Flappie Posted August 2, 2020 Posted August 2, 2020 Have you tried activating your modules in the Module panel? (It's located on the top left part of the main menu) If you think your game is broken beyond repair, feel free to ask for official support here: https://www.digitalcombatsimulator.com/fr/support/ ---

WTF! Once again, Clearly, there is a problem with this software that is not being addressed. I understand your fustrations and DCS 2.5.6. has created a lot of issues, I would like to try and help, to do so you would have to post the following; ie: - DCS.log file (C:\Users\Username\Saved Games\DCS.openbeta\LOGS\DCS.log) - DCS Autoupdatelog.txt from: ie (d:\Games\DCS World 2 OpenBeta\) - DXDIAG.txt report (Win + R keys -> type in DXDIAG -> Save all info to file and post) Issues may be related to other software or hardware such as: - Anti-virus interference with files / directories (Locking and Quarenteening files due to False positives) - Add your DCS folders to the Whitelist or Exception rules. - Spywares scanners including (Bit defender, Malwarebytes and others) interfering with files - Exclude DCS folders from being checked, disable or remove program. - Windows 10 updates may have created a new issue. - Faulty hardware, such as SSD, HDD, Memory. - Corrupted SSD / HDD directory structures. (Run Scandisk on all partitions) - Not running DCS as administrator. DCS Openbeta v2.5.6.x software - Objective to get a clean install: Disable virus and spyware scanners before running installer. Download the Openbeta installer and run it as administrator: https://www.digitalcombatsimulator.com/en/downloads/world/beta/ Run DCS and check it works correctly and then check the module manager has your modules loaded, if not loaded them in. DCS will create a fresh "C:\Users\Username\Saved Games\DCS.openbeta" folder for your configs. or DCS Stable v2.5.5.x upgraded to 2.5.6.x Stable - Objective to get a working install: Remove all types of mods from game: https://www.digitalcombatsimulator.com/en/support/faq/709/#2463807 Rename your "C:\Users\Username\Saved Games\DCS.stable" folder temporarily so DCS will create a new one for you - (A lot of issues are related to files kept in here, and no amount of re-installing the core DCS engine will fix it, if DCS runs correctly having done this, you will have to move over your input configs, etc). Run DCS and check it works correctly and then check the module manager has your modules loaded, if not loaded them in. Try running the Updater and see if it works correctly. You should hopefully have a working copy of DCS by now. Let me know how you are getting on with what you have done already. Regards, Ian.
