Donut Posted May 18, 2021 Posted May 18, 2021 The P-51 has needed an updated 3D model for years now...it is just outdated and not up to current quality standards. For example, look at the wing...the fuel caps are painted on textures instead of being 3D modeled. The overall model lacks the detail and visual pop that the newest aircraft have. 1 i5 7600K @4.8GHz | 1080 Ti | 32GB 3200MHz | SSD | DCS SETTINGS | "COCKPIT"
grafspee Posted May 18, 2021 Posted May 18, 2021 We need add to this list Bf-109 and Fw-190 D-9 as well. 2 System specs: I7 14700KF, Gigabyte Z790 Aorus Elite, 64GB DDR4 3600MHz, Gigabyte RTX 4090,Win 11, 48" OLED LG TV + 42" LG LED monitor
jamespejam Posted May 19, 2021 Posted May 19, 2021 That is the only reason why I haven't got the P51. I am afraid of spending money on a clearly outdated model and suddenly there is a P-51D II trick. Should not be so complicated to be done either.
DD_Fenrir Posted May 19, 2021 Posted May 19, 2021 (edited) The P-51 is fun. Yes the 3D model is 9 years old but it's not horrendous. Would it benefit from an overhaul? Sure. Is it a necessity?... Er... If you're spending your time staring at a textured fuel filler cap rather than through the gunsight at a wriggling 109 or trying to dodge a hail of 20mm flak rounds then maybe DCS is not your ideal simulator. The P51 is very cheap on sale, it flies great and it has multiple great DLC campaigns. It doesn't look as good as the P47 for sure, but not as bad as a Huey or F-5E either (at least to my eyes and in VR with a G2). Once you start flying it you quickly forget about graphic details tbh. Art-J Posted May 20, 2021 Posted May 20, 2021 ^ also, with a complete cockpit retexturing done 3 years ago and recent improvements to windscreen and canopy reflections (not to mention 2.7 propeller), it looks as good inside as new modules. Cockpit is where we spend most of our flying itme anyway. i7 9700K @ stock speed, single GTX1070, 32 gigs of RAM, TH Warthog, MFG Crosswind, Win10.
