Captain Orso Posted August 13, 2020 Posted August 13, 2020 I have a TM Warthog HOTAS and use the throttle coolie switch up and down to control the Antenna Elevations up and down, and it works like a charm :) But the assigned coolie switch is then automatically also the TGP zoom-in and -out switch, because on the Real-World™ Hornet HOTAS the Antenna Switch doubles as the TGP zoom-in/out switch, which .. fine, ofc, why not. Coolie switch up for antenna up and coolie switch down for antenna down is intuitive and ergonomic. It's easy to use. But then using the coolie switch to zoom the TGP I have to pull the coolie switch upwards to zoom-in, and push it downwards to zoom-out. To me, this is logically backwards, but I guess others may have a different opinion. So I'm proposing an RFI to add as special setting for deciding which way the Antenna Elevation Switch zooms-in and -out. One setting: Up = Zoom-In Down = Zoom-Out The other setting: Up = Zoom-Out Down = Zoom-In It can be put in the special setting section the same as the Realistic TDC setting. Thank you. Ourorborus Posted August 13, 2020 Posted August 13, 2020 I too found this a little weird but figured it was like that in the real jet. It wouldn't be the first odd HMI decision by Boeing.
Swift. Posted August 13, 2020 Posted August 13, 2020 Makes sense in my mind, just visualise it as 'pushing' the ground away and 'pulling' it back towards you. 476th Discord | 476th Website | Swift Youtube Ryzen 5800x, RTX 4070ti, 64GB, Quest 2
Tholozor Posted August 13, 2020 Posted August 13, 2020 Current implementation makes sense to me as well. I look at it in terms of 'increase' and 'decrease.' Antenna elevation increase, increases zoom. Antenna elevation decrease, decreases zoom. Captain Orso Posted August 14, 2020 Author Posted August 14, 2020 The real world REC {[Radar Elevation Control (REC) per the NATOPS manual] so much to the premise, ED always knows best} is on the front of the right throttle lever. It is absolutely natural to pull the switch upward to elevate the radar antenna setting, and visa-versa. The NATOPS does not reference moving the switch up or down. Without a specific NATOPS reference, customer are left to decide for themselves what they would prefer. I have not requested that a change be made, which forces all to use the REC the same way I wish to use it. I requested an option to set the REC for zoom-in and -out per the wishes of the user. That takes nothing from anyone, but gives everyone the ability to insure their own preference. I hope ED will take this RFI seriously and implement it expediently, for everyone's benefit. Thank you.
