hi, i've been looking at how to cut and paste my DCS install to a new SSD. from what i've read you simply copy/paste the main folder, then update shortcuts.

However two questions,

1) are there other folders used by DCS that are NOT in the main DCS Open Beta folder? for example, the files used in saved games. will anything there need to be moved/updated? I don't want to leave spread out unused files.

2) anything in the registry that points to old location? i saw conflicting info on this. some say you should update to new location, others say don't touch it. if don't touch it, then why does it point to a location at all?

thanks!

If you are moving DCS within the same PC/Windows, then you don't need to move anything else. However, if you will be reinstalling Windows, then you should backup your /Saved Games/DCSxxx folders and you will probably need to adjust the names of the HOTAS configuration files that are within Saved Games, to make them compatible with the new Windows USB ID that you will be getting.

On my PC, there is no DCS registry data ... maybe I lost it on a PC change, however I have not experienced a single issue that could be connected to this lack of registry entries.

2) Yes, there is a path value under "Computer\HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Eagle Dynamics\DCS World" that needs to be directed to the new install location.

Intel i7-12700K @ 8x5GHz+4x3.8GHz + 32 GB DDR5 RAM + Nvidia Geforce RTX 2080 (8 GB VRAM) + M.2 SSD + Windows 10 64Bit

My registry has no such key, and I have not noticed any adverse effect.

You can't call DCS_updater as standalone from start menu. That is my gripe. What leads to either always go to game bin directory to run it, or use Skatezilla made updater.

Non-relevant problem for most, but annoying nevertheless when needed.

OK, I actually hadn't noticed that issue, as I have a command prompt icon set to open on the bin folder, to run the DCS_Updater with whatever option I want (usually to Update, as I don't use the automatic update):

I like the Pilot's Log Book thing :pilotfly:

It is a strictly manual input spreadsheet, that's why I haven't shared it yet. At the end of a flight, when I'm at the debriefing screen I copy some of the data over to the Spreadsheet. Then I go to Tacview and extract from there the flight duration.

I started it because I wanted to record the flight time I spent on training missions and on Multiplayer, which are missing from the DCS Logbook.

Best regards :smartass:
