Barometric Altitude showing negative in Syria Map

Recommended Posts

In the Syria map only, I'm getting -ve altitude after proper INS alignment. I've double-checked in other maps, this problem doesn't exists anywhere else.

Can someone help to cconfirm whether this is already a known issue?

There are some areas in Syria that are below sea level a quick google search turned up. Maybe that's all there is to it.

make sure you set your QFE right

a lot of airfields in Syria are 2000-3000ft above sea level, check your starting altitude in the kneeboard and rotate the QFE knob (under barometric altimeter gauge) so the altitude matches the one in the kneeboard

I always thought INS alignment does that... Ok, I will try this. Tx.

nah, INS alignment has nothing to do with this

if you want to check on other maps - try Shiraz or Nalchik - these are airfields with high elevation above MSL

FWIW - Plenty of times IRL I've gone into a plane and initially it shows the altitude below sea level (at an airfield that is above sea level) - such as if the plane was last used during a low pressure cycle, and then I fly it a few days later when a high is over the top. :)
