Barrett_g Posted October 21, 2020 Posted October 21, 2020 I always just assumed I had a good crew chief that had already pre-flighted my plane and warmed the engine up for me. Also, in WWII, wasn’t the average lifespan of an aircraft something like 15-20 missions until it was lost? I can’t remember the number but it was surprisingly low. So most airplanes were fairly new!
MrExplosion Posted October 28, 2020 Posted October 28, 2020 BBC just released an extensive sound library. Maybe ED can take some inspiration from there? :) For example this: Supermarine Spitfire, exterior, start, run up, misfire, rev up, tickover, taxi away. http://bbcsfx.acropolis.org.uk/assets/07017163.wav Kein Anderer als ein Jäger spürt, Den Kampf und Sieg so konzentriert. Pickle72 Posted October 29, 2020 Posted October 29, 2020 You guys ever seen any of Kermit Weeks videos? https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCOC84qwgDHkUPwfeLKL40tQ Lots of cool stuff for sure. But I remember one video he was starting the Wildcat (I think) and he explaned how the bottom cylinders don't even fire for several minutes until the engine is warm enough to burn off the oil that collects in them. Definetly made for a not so smooth idle. And lots of smoke. Some of this being modeled will ultimately sell the illusion. That's all we really want.
