Pilotasso Posted April 29, 2008 Posted April 29, 2008 IS this a new version or just an addon to the fleet? .
EvilBivol-1 Posted April 30, 2008 Posted April 30, 2008 This is actually one of the airframes from the original Soviet production batch. It may be "new" to the air force, but it isn't really new at all. It was, however, modernized in the process of being completed. I believe there are still a few unfinished airframes from that original batch, which will now likely be completed in the modernized version to enter service over this and next year. In the meanwhile, the current Tu-160s are being retrofitted with the same modernization kit as well. - EB [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] Nothing is easy. Everything takes much longer. Kusch Posted April 30, 2008 Author Posted April 30, 2008 "...A new Tu-160 Blackjack strategic bomber officially entered service with Russia' Air Force during a ceremony at an aircraft manufacturing plant in Kazan on the Volga, a RIA Novosti correspondent reported on Tuesday. The plant in Kazan, the capital of the Volga republic of Tatarstan, has the capacity to manufacture a small number of Tu-160s in the near future, the president of Russia's Unified Aircraft Corporation (UAC) said at the ceremony in the city. "We will soon complete the construction of several more strategic and long-range bombers and deliver them to the Russian Air Force," Alexei Fyodorov said without specifying the number of additional aircraft." Meaning, they have already been in existence since the USSR. :) According to my unofficial information, producing a brand new Tu-160 is not currently possible. - EB [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] Nothing is easy. Kusch Posted April 30, 2008 Author Posted April 30, 2008 Probably this Tu-160 is production of "old parts" (ZSRR times), and probably producing a brand new Tu-160 in "new parts" is not currently possible ;) Give me "flying telephone pole" (SA-2)!
Vekkinho Posted April 30, 2008 Posted April 30, 2008 It's been said that new Tu-160 will have completely new WS and avionics so I believe Kazan plans to produce few more "old school" Blackjacks first ! [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
Boberro Posted April 30, 2008 Posted April 30, 2008 Cool to see new projects related to Blackjacks, I like this bomber. 1 Reminder: Fighter pilots make movies. Bomber pilots make... HISTORY! :D | Also to be remembered: FRENCH TANKS HAVE ONE GEAR FORWARD AND FIVE BACKWARD :D ಠ_ಠ ツ
ED Team Groove Posted May 8, 2008 ED Team Posted May 8, 2008 Thats the Tu-160 "Vitaly Kopylov". Its the 16th bomber in the 37th Air Army. Thats "strange" because Russia reported 15 Tu-160s in the last START Data exchange early this year.
