tn_prvteye Posted May 14, 2008 Posted May 14, 2008 I was setting up some 1v1 dogfights to hone my BVR skills...getting ready for on-line... :) And I noticed that I could see the Su-27 from a longer distance away. At least, it was easier to see. This concerned me since the Flanker is my plane of choice. When I went up against an F-15, MiG-29 of F-16, it was much more difficult to see them. I know the Su-27 is bigger, but I didn't think it would make that much of a difference. Is this a known issue? Or have I porked something up with all the mods I've installed?
Pilotasso Posted May 14, 2008 Posted May 14, 2008 Actualy you can see the F-15 and Su-33 at the same range. Its the mig thats much harder to see. .
tn_prvteye Posted May 14, 2008 Author Posted May 14, 2008 Well, I can see them, but the Su-27 REALLY stands out, it's much easier to track further out...it's darker and larger (at least it looks that way). An LOD or camo issue maybe? I've tried different skins on the Su-27, but it's still easier to see than any other aircraft.
Pilotasso Posted May 14, 2008 Posted May 14, 2008 Its a LOD issue. There are many people claiming a fix for a supposed 1.13 patch. But me thinks it wont happen. New models are needed, and they are all going to find their way into DCS Black shark instead. 1 .
tn_prvteye Posted May 14, 2008 Author Posted May 14, 2008 Okay, I just wanted to make sure it wasn't something I screwed up. I can adjust my tactics accordingly. Thanks for the help!
Boberro Posted May 14, 2008 Posted May 14, 2008 By this u can track enemy plane without any instruments on and make a silent missile gift for opponent heeh :) Reminder: Fighter pilots make movies. Bomber pilots make... HISTORY! :D | Also to be remembered: FRENCH TANKS HAVE ONE GEAR FORWARD AND FIVE BACKWARD :D ಠ_ಠ ツ
tn_prvteye Posted May 14, 2008 Author Posted May 14, 2008 That's what I've been practicing. Although the AI seems to see me regardless. Even with ECM and Radar off, they can nail me.

AI knows your AoA, engine power and other things which shouldn't know, but now know :D Reminder: Fighter pilots make movies. Bomber pilots make... Vekkinho Posted May 14, 2008 Posted May 14, 2008 And AI can see you when U hide in the clouds. In fact I used to hide in overcast during MP sessions but this trick doesn't work against AI! It always pulls enough lead to gun me down! [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
tn_prvteye Posted May 14, 2008 Author Posted May 14, 2008 So if I get to a point where I can down the AI in BVR consistently, I should do okay on-line? I've tried a little MP, but before I started practicing, I got my but kicked.
Vekkinho Posted May 14, 2008 Posted May 14, 2008 Downing an AI becomes boring because AI always evades your Radar guided missiles in a same manner! It's scripted! After few AI encounters you'll notice it always beams your missile by pulling a 90° left turn and pitching down to evade it. It will always launch ARH/SARH as soon as it gets an authorization! Humans do various and unpredictable tactics and maneuvers so You can't really say how long you're gonna live in MP! But playing MP constantly will surely brush U up! [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
Cosmonaut Posted May 14, 2008 Posted May 14, 2008 So if I get to a point where I can down the AI in BVR consistently, I should do okay on-line? I've tried a little MP, but before I started practicing, I got my but kicked. Playing against AI will help you get your routines down like selecting different radar modes, maintaining a lock while performing evasive maneuvers etc but things play out differently in multiplayer, so once you get the basics down then just get online and after a few sessions you'll get the hang of it.
