Question: How to disable a Rezky's SAM capabilities?

Hi all,

a perhaps silly question: can a Rezky's SAM ability be destroyed before the ship is destroyed?

I'm designing a mission, around a Rezky sitting in a harbour and a flock of hornets tasked with destroying it. I've envisioned the mission to have multiple stages, with the first stage using the hornet and HARMS to take out the Rezky's SAM capability. But try as I might, that dang boat keeps launching SAMs. Is that because I'm a terrible pilot and my HARMS all hit squat? Can I actually take out the Rezky's SAMs without having to sink it, or will it continue to happily launch SAMs at me until it's below the water line (i.e. do I have to destroy the ship before it stops launching SAMs or can I destroy the radar emitter and then proceed to stage two: sinking the ship with mavs?).

Thanks for any hints,

-ch

No they can't, let me explain.

There are 2 primary issues with ships, and anti-radiation anything at the moment (I also suspect that part of it is the implementation of RADARs on anything that isn't an aircraft).

Firstly, ships don't have subsystem damage, at least to my knowledge (some have subsystem damage from a purely graphical perspective, but it's very much a mixed bag), so even if you managed to score rounds on antennae or weapons, you won't actually do anything to them, they'll still continue to function. The only way you can disable a ship, is to attack it with enough weapons such that it's health drops below a certain threshold (something like 25-33%), whereby the ships RADARs and combat ability become non-operational, then once below 10% ships stop moving.

The second problem is that anti-radiation missiles in DCS home in on the geometric centre of whatever they're targeting; they don't actually home in on antennae, even though they absolutely should - this isn't so much an issue for dedicated RADAR vehicles, but it is very much an issue on things like ships. This causes me to suspect that anti-radiation missiles (or in fact the whole of Electronic Warfare in general (note I don't mean ECM or Jamming)) is very much simplified.

It is supposed to become possible once we have the new damage model available on all units, but it will take time. For now, all units use simple health bars with some actions bound to health tresholds, as Northstar said.

Yeah, and agreed it's probably ages away, and much of the ships (especially on the REDFOR side) are long overdue a major facelift.

That and the anti-radiation missile implementation (and to be honest EW in general).

Thanks for the quick and comprehensive answers! I guess I'll then simply set the ship to Weapons Tight when damaged beyond a certain degree to simulate 'radar out'
