Does new DM affect AI? If so what are the effects in practice?

Does the new DM affect the AI when flying the player-flyable WW2 planes?

If so, what effect does it have on the AI?

I've just been testing out a simple dogfight three times against a rookie FW 190 A9, deliberately very slowly damaging it using a spitfire, then leaving it for a bit before applying more damage and it played out the same each time:

-quickly caused holes in wings and right undercarriage dropped,

-some smoking, seems to be very consistent with amount of damage

-Loss in airspeed due to damage (I think this is new?)

I didn't see any loss in control though e.g. wobbling, losing control, always turning the same way. The AI just flew lower and slower.

I also didn't see any additional damage over time e.g. smoking getting worse, engine stopping, fire starting by itself, structural failure etc.

The only way to get the enemy to bail/kill them was to destroy their plane completely; I couldn't rely on doing serious damage then waiting it to get worse/for them to crash.

Take this with a huge grain of salt though as I've not been playing DCS for ages so this was just a test to see if single player DCS WW2 might be worth jumping back into ( I hope so!): What do you guys think about the new DM in single player?

I did a couple quick dogfights vs AI last night and I thought the AI behaved a little differently once damaged, although it's hard to say if it's really new behavior or not. Of course it did the endless loops until I got a few hits on. Loved the black/white smoke and flame effects. Once it was smoking and I was behind it, it stopped looping and started trying to force scissors and jinking a lot (well I was shooting at it). Left to its own devices after a minute or so of being on fire and leaking oil and fuel the pilot bailed out.

It definitely affects AI, I saw damaged plane releasing a bit of smoke and after about 30 seconds suddenly burst into flames. That wasn't a thing before. But some things don't work anymore. It's not possible to take the wings off anymore with mk 108 30mm canon.

I did some test too, I don't know if you noticed that but AI after got shot starts fly inverted.

Yep, it was said not long ago the IA would adapt to the new DM and it definitely behaves differently now. Of course it depends on the IA level you set (which is new either) but for instance a newbie bails out almost right it gets a few damage, while a veteran holds on the plane longer though they bail out also in the event of fire as opposed to human players online remaining in the plane and fighting while in flames. Nice details by the way.

I've been testing the new damage model against the AI, and it seems quite effective! I lit an A-20's engine on fire, and a while later the wing separated (without me hitting it again) and it spun to the ground. I think that's new. And I'm loving how fires will sometimes start and spread on their own after hits, and a damaged plane seems like it's draggier and has lower performance than before. It really helps make it feel like you can cripple an AI plane without having to outright destroy it.

I have noticed missiles aren't very effective against the A-20 or Bf-109K (AIM-9s, AIM-7s, AIM-120s). The missile hit will have shredded the control surfaces and riddled the poor plane with holes, but it's able to fly on -- at least for a while. But I also recognize that's not, shall we say, a "normal" use case. :P The Hornet's 20mm Vulcan is EXTREMELY effective, though, as expected!

New DM affect AI but it is completely different from player's damage model.

I noticed same thing, but jump in BF-109 or any other warbird and got shot by aim120 AI :). I shot AI bf109 with aim120 then with aim-9 and AI was still flying. I jumped in bf-109 got 1 aim120 on my face and it was over, total loss of control.
