CanopyJettison Posted December 4, 2020 Posted December 4, 2020 (edited) Cheers, I think we all agree that the B is livery-wise far away from being completed. There were requests from the community for HivViz skins and Santa cats. I agree, they are urgently needed. But I wanted to push two squadrons which are not included at all. Not even as a single LowViz livery. I am Talking about the VX-9 and VX-30. VX-9 with the black tail with the white bat. Modex 241 VX-30 with the three headed dog. Modex 210. Awesome skins which NEEDED to be included into the module. Please dont come up with a link to the download section. Just officially included, multiplayer-working liveries. Please HB, would it be possible to provide some information, if those both squadrons were already on the roadmap for the B? @IronMike? @ensamwarg? Please dont loose the love for the B, now where the A arrived. Both needed to be completed. Thanks mates for an little update. Edited December 5, 2020 by CanopyJettison 1
draconus Posted December 4, 2020 Posted December 4, 2020 I see it's getting ridiculous with these skin requests. Every possible skin included in the game? Please be sane. CanopyJettison Posted December 5, 2020 Author Posted December 5, 2020 (edited) Downloadable content doest work in multiplayer. Not an option. And even if it would work, no option eather. We dont pay 80 bugs for in incomplete module, were have need to go on a search and download stuff by our own. At least every squadrons should get a spot and tribute within this amazing module. It must be included into the official game. From my understanding those are the last two missing sqadrons for the B. These were two squadrons which arent considered at all. I think it wouldnt be that much effort to add them to the game. I am not impatient. They dont need to come with the next update. Just being on the roadmap and coming somewhere in the future is enough for now. I think its also in HBs interest to get things completed. They want to live up to their quality reputation. Of course there were several other HiViz and special Skins missing for the B. Those were a cool bonus. But let us first get at least every squadron in there for the B. After that we can have a look for HivViz and Christmas Skins. Thanks again. HB, awesome work so far! Edited December 5, 2020 by CanopyJettison 1

I've seen you say this before on here...Downloadable content absolutely does work in MP and it is an option for almost everyone who flies in MP. If you are flying with a wingman or squadron, be sure that everyone downloads the same skins...another example is on a server like the 104th; the regular crowd downloads all the 104th skins so that we can see the members aircraft in the correct skin. The vast majority of people on the server are not going to be close enough to see (nor do they probably care) what is painted on your plane. I often use downloaded skins on MP just because I like to look at it and take screenshots, whether or not anyone else can see it. Skins take up a lot of drive space and Heatblur and ED are simply not going to force everyone in DCS to keep 500 different skins installed. Download skins...use skins...enjoy the skins 2
RustBelt Posted December 5, 2020 Posted December 5, 2020 I just wish they would implement custom skins in MP and we could be done with this crap. That way we only ever have to have the amount of skins equal to the number of players in the server to worry about. instead of having to keep multiple hundreds of Gig libraries for each server some of which are people who don't even play anymore. iRacing has a pretty slick middleware solution, but that works better since it's load in before a fixed player pool race event. Where as DCS would have to be heh..on the fly.

Where as DCS would have to be heh..on the fly. Doing it on the fly is not really viable for bandwidth reasons. Desync is a problem already; trying to transfer graphical data to every client when an aircraft with a custom skin enters would not help matters. Either you transfer it to every client on the server the moment the player joins - which will inevitably lag the server while it is happening - or you try to load it to a client when they come into a certain range of that aircraft - which will make desync issues at the merge worse than they already are. I don't play multiplayer in DCS, but I've played enough other multiplayer games and know enough about how netcode works (I am a software engineer and work on distributed applications every day) that the problems with doing something like this are pretty apparent. There just really isn't any way to do it effectively. If every player had a great connection to the server all the time, something like this could possibly be done, but in the current state of the Internet that is not something you can rely on. Besides this, nothing would stop a user from creating obscene/offensive liveries and inflicting them on everyone else even if it was otherwise feasible. Having played some racing games which do make custom liveries available in multiplayer (Forza Horizon, for one example), I have seen a fair amount of this. In order to prevent that, someone would have to vet every custom livery before it could be used on a multiplayer server - and I don't think ED is going to be hiring the staff to do that. Another thing to consider is that DCS is a RAM hog as it is on many maps. Making all the other players store your custom livery in memory won't help matters. Sure, you may have enough RAM that it's not a problem - but not everyone does. The current scheme works fine. If someone actually cares about seeing someone else's custom livery in MP, they can download it. If they don't care, then they don't care, and at that point what does it matter?
