Su-25T attack HUD and Combat Steering AP behaviour discrepancies from manual

I have noticed an interesting issue - the actual view of the HUD is not matching the pages from the manual in Ground Attack mode. (yeah right, who reads the manual? 🙂 but I do...)

Quick search on the forums did not reveal any explanations, so I decided to consult with community first.

Instead of showing the number of the selected pylon, I can only see the 2 bars and selected weapon type. Is this how the real plane behaves now?

Or just a mismatch between the manual and the game?

P.S. Actually, after checking real Su-25 cockpit recodings on YTUBE of engagements from that era and these do look much different anyway...

BTW, I have noticed that Autopilon in Combat Steering (АУ-МАРШР-КВ) mode also does not work as described in the manual. Maybe the manual is no longer up to date?  Did anyone else noticed these issues too?

The manual is outdated. I can't recall seeing those numbers on the Su-25T HUD, not even in Flaming Cliffs 2.

I've just tested the Combat Steering Autopilot and it works great:

  • First go to attack mode (7)
  • Then select Vikhr missile (D)
  • Turn on the Shkval (O)
  • Lock anything you see on camera (Enter). It has to be far enough from your aircraft. 15 km should do it.
  • Go away from the target, either left or right.
  • Activate Combat Steering mode (Alt-6)
  • When your aircraft is in front of the target and the distance is less than 7.3 km, override autopilot (maintain Alt-`) to control aircraft pitch.
  • Lower the nose and shoot (Space).

The manual says "Alt-~" for the autopilot override. It's wrong, at least with English keyboards.

Thanks for the answer and the tips. Good to know about the manual showing some age!

With regards to the AP - I guess my expectations were too high. 🙂 The video from Flappie explains it all. In my case CSAP does exactly what's shown in a video, because in a heat of a mission I am typically engaging Vihr'z from a couple of km, and as soon as I engage Combat steering the nose goes up and I am loosing the ring. Will use override and point manually now. Thanks!
