Balthazar Posted December 16, 2020 Posted December 16, 2020 (edited) Hi all, Is anybody knows if the HSD data update rate we have now is accurate? It seems to has quite big delay comparing other aircrafts and it makes it almost unusable for acm. I understand that we will have some delay but sometimes it seems quite big. WHOGX5 Posted December 16, 2020 Posted December 16, 2020 What do you mean by refresh rate? The FPS of the display itself or the update rate for data link contacts? -Col. Balthazar Posted December 16, 2020 Author Posted December 16, 2020 (edited) The update rate. Sorry English is not my native language. Corrected in my initial question Edited December 16, 2020 by Baltazar
WHOGX5 Posted December 16, 2020 Posted December 16, 2020 No worries. I don't have good source information on what the actual update rate is in the variant that's modeled in DCS. In other commercial F-16 simulations that I've tried though the update rate is arguably worse than it is in DCS. It's not a live feed of information but is rather updated at intervals of a few seconds. It's not meant to be used in stuff like ACM as it's simply not quick nor precise enough. You'll be better off trying to maintain visual instead (even though that's easier said than done in DCS). -Col. Geraki Posted December 16, 2020 Posted December 16, 2020 In RL the IDM works every few sec's i suppose the link 16 too.
Florence201 Posted December 17, 2020 Posted December 17, 2020 (edited) 7 hours ago, Geraki said: In RL the IDM works every few sec's i suppose the link 16 too. So don’t confuse IDM with L16. L16 is a network that has time slots for transmission and receive of messages. Messages are transmitted from each unit to the network every frame. Therefore your system updates every X seconds (not sure I can explain further due to classification).basically, every <1 second, your system should update. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Joint_Tactical_Information_Distribution_System Edited December 17, 2020 by Florence201 [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
llOPPOTATOll Posted December 18, 2020 Posted December 18, 2020 IDM only updates by it self every couple seconds if its running in CONT mode. The other modes such as DMD and ASSIGN work by every press and hold of IFF out it sends the position of your flight members or whoever you put into IDM. So it basically runs on requests rather than continuously unless ran in CONT mode.
Dee-Jay Posted December 18, 2020 Posted December 18, 2020 L16 update rates depends on networks/receivers settings and are customized for a/c type; mission type; ... depends on needs. (higher rates are needed for fighters more than transporters or helicopter, or UAVs for instance ...)
