BioZ Posted December 17, 2020 Posted December 17, 2020 Greetings everyone! Back in the days before fancy datalinks on the BLUEFOR side, Mach 1.6 F-16C, AIM-120C TWS. I loved penetrating the enemy with my old but powerful AJS-37 Viggen. Doing low flying around SAM sites and running from SU-27, reaching the airport and delivering a good load of High drag bombs for the runway was challenging but fun. Nowadays it's almost impossible to do in a Viggen, You will take off and no matter how low and good you fly you will always pop up on that lads F-16/18C datalink, he will just give you a good punch with that slick AIM-120C without even lifting his arm. Now the question itself. Anyone knows some good tactics on how to pass thought the enemy SAM systems and especially how to hide from those F-16C and deliver a good load of penetrators for that runway on the other side of Persian Gulf ? 1
razo+r Posted December 17, 2020 Posted December 17, 2020 Either come from space (10'000m or higher) or from 1m above ground with the use of terrain. Also, doing some sort of flank or similar could help too. Don't hope for a lot of success though on such flat terrain like Persian Gulf.
Mars Exulte Posted December 17, 2020 Posted December 17, 2020 If there's an active and alert CAP and you're running solo, the short answer is you're not going to get by unmolested. Period. This is even more assured if you're coming in a straight line or the terrain is not conducive to you sneaking in. Just because a given tactic exists does not mean it's foolproof or suitable to all situations. In the real world, there are no solo lonewolf attacks on critical infrastructure like that, because, for obvious reasons, it doesn't work. As you have discovered. G.J.S Posted December 17, 2020 Posted December 17, 2020 It will help to not be radiating also. Choice of route, using terrain to the best of your ability, using other flights as a distraction (fighter flights) so as to tie up enemy air while you slip through (timing!), but mainly being electronically silent. If an enemy RWR gets pinged by a (say F-14 radar) at its 10 o’clock, chances are it’s going to head that way. If you aren’t “pinging” anybody, then you are the surprise element, and chances are you may just get through. Im same as you, I much prefer the whole getting in unmolested, hitting target hard, and getting out before the enemy has time to react. Selecting routes to use terrain masking, approaching target from the rear (you want the egress to be homeward!), and giving it hell. - - - The only real mystery in life is just why kamikaze pilots wore helmets? - - -
