velniux Posted December 19, 2020 Posted December 19, 2020 Hi all! Whenever I take off in Nevada or the Persion Gulf in bright daylight, I see a light cone on the ground in front of my viper's nose. I understand that these lights are really bright, but can they overpower the sun in the Persian Gulf at noon? Is that realistic? 1
Florence201 Posted December 20, 2020 Posted December 20, 2020 Yes. They are VERY high power bulbs. [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
danny875 Posted December 20, 2020 Posted December 20, 2020 Stuck me as being too bright, I don’t know so but feel it unlikely to out power the sun
RustBelt Posted December 21, 2020 Posted December 21, 2020 They are, because there isn't really "Ambient Light" in DCS. the Texture is illuminated with a given "Ambient light value". Not the space. So the Landing light always shows up "On Top" of the world lighting. It's also why at night you taxi under what appears to be a pool of light from a stand light on a ramp and the plane stays dark. The lighting is a fudge as it is in most games.
velniux Posted December 21, 2020 Author Posted December 21, 2020 Thanks for your replies. It's not that important as I never spend a lot of time on the runway anyway... It just struck me so I thought I'd ask here as there are people with first-hand experience on this forum.

Very bright, but not nearly bright enough to over power the sun during daylight. There are plenty of photos/videos on the internet showing landing light on with no visible effect on the runway. Here's an example. Landing light on, no splash of light. And I can tell you in all my time flying and being around airplanes, I've never seen anything like what landing lights in DCS do during daytime. Edited December 21, 2020 by Jester2138 1
