SD-10 doing super hard instant 11° turn within ~250ms

Recommended Posts

Posted (edited)

Video is from SD-10's POV.

Here, SD-10, basically directly after launch, managed to do a super hard 11° turn within under 1 second.

(G-force indications sadly are missing at that time in tacview, as you can see. Another DCS bug most likely, right?)

Does any other (non-thrust-vectoring) DCS missile also do such super-hard turns directly after launch?

[Tacview-question: Is there any way to indicate milliseconds in TacView time? (only full seconds really is a too inaccurate unit for analyzing this... 😖)]

11 DPS turn rate at M1.4? That's perfectly reasonable. Most fighters can do double that at half the speed, so im not sure whats even wrong with this "bug". Plus, this is tacview, and can have desync etc

Rather at M1.55-1.6

fighters? This is about the missile, not the fighter.

TacView only displays what it receives from DCS server, and for that moment where it shows G-force indication, it all should be assumed to be correct data

even better, the faster the more avaliable Gs and better turn rate

Im giving this as a very reasonable example. But, to give a missile specific example, heres a G force vs speed chart for the AIM-9L:

If you do the math, the AIM-9L can pull around 15-20G at M 1.4-1.6, which translates to a turn rate well over 20dps. So no theres no issue getting an SD-10 to turn that quickly, or any modern AAM for that reason.

Ok, yes, but the big issue here is the super sudden and unrealistic non-fluent turn that the SD-10 did in that video/in the tacview-file. Since air is compressible, a missile will definitely not turn as instant as a fast-moving torpedo probably can, for example.

..Which is as issue of turn rate which as I established is perfectly reasonable

Most if not all missiles have that "hickup" maneuver (or used to have) , if that is what you mean. If it is that, then you should gather some examples of various missiles and raise a bug report for ED

yes, hickup is the super scary thing that left me in shock-and-awe when I saw that JF-17 launch it at me, and that might've contributed to me getting shot at the end of that tacview.

"gather examples" in form of huuuuge (and probably useless to ED staff) multiplayer .trks, or would tacviews suffice?

Make missions.

2 Planes. Let them shoot each other and save the track. That should be enough to show it. And the tracks generated by this mission are very small.

Just another one of those "I got killed, must be a bug!" threads.

happy new year to you too... (that is what I read between the lines of your sentence 😂 Maybe yes tbh, noticing those movements distracted me before got shot, but nobody will ever know if that distraction caused me to react improperly, I did notch+chaff flying slow and low, sadly tacview was corrupted as server crashes just ~1h before restart.)
