Flyby Posted July 12, 2008 Author Posted July 12, 2008 but... Will the real battlefield be available in Black Shark? I mean there will be NATO equipment to go up against. Right? I think I'm losing focus here. Flyby out The U.S. Congress is the best governing body that BIG money can buy.
GGTharos Posted July 12, 2008 Posted July 12, 2008 Yes, there will be. You can create whatever scenario you like ... from 'blow up this car' with no threats to you, or just a tour, to a full blown fulda gap 'there's no way you'll live through this' scenario. It's all up to your imagination - aside from what'll come with Black Shark, natch :) [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] Reminder: SAM = Speed Bump :D I used to play flight sims like you, but then I took a slammer to the knee - Yoda
mikoyan Posted July 12, 2008 Posted July 12, 2008 (edited) In my country we use modified uh-60s to support the troops and attack insurgent groups especially at night, using infrared targeting devices. The helicopter is known as uh-60 arpia, it works very well; maybe the ka-50 can be used the same way, but more effectively since it is a dedicated attack helicopter and not a conversion like our choppers. here is a video: http://www.flightlevel350.com/Aircraft_Sikorsky_UH-60_Black_Hawk-Airline_Fuerza_Aerea_Colombiana_Aviation_Video-6662.html Edited July 12, 2008 by mikoyan
Ryujin Posted July 12, 2008 Posted July 12, 2008 Any IR illuminators would have to be viewed through NVGs, so first off it'd be night only (not some thing the KA-50 was designed for, but doable). Then the question is do the Russians have/use IR equipment in large numbers. And last be not least I don't think DCS will support it. But something like this would be very useful in the AH-64 module.
Yellonet Posted July 12, 2008 Posted July 12, 2008 Mission idea. "Sniper" Take out a insurgent leader by destroying his car as he travels out of town. By a tip you have found out what kind of car he will be traveling in and approximately when it will leave the town (night time) you'll have to stay several kilometers away in the night to not get spotted and wait for the right car to reveal itself, then take it out when there is no civilians around. Taking out the wrong car would likely lead to some bad press and increased support for the insurgents. i7-2600k@4GHz, 8GB, R9 280X 3GB, SSD, HOTAS WH, Pro Flight Combat Pedals, TIR5
GGTharos Posted July 12, 2008 Posted July 12, 2008 And how are you going to see the car in the night without a night capable combat chopper? :P Why are people trying to make it do things it was NOT designed for? :P [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] Reminder: SAM = Speed Bump :D I used to play flight sims like you, but then I took a slammer to the knee - Yoda
Yellonet Posted July 12, 2008 Posted July 12, 2008 And how are you going to see the car in the night without a night capable combat chopper? :P Why are people trying to make it do things it was NOT designed for? :P NVG and binoculars :) Because it's more fun that way. i7-2600k@4GHz, 8GB, R9 280X 3GB, SSD, HOTAS WH, Pro Flight Combat Pedals, TIR5
Boberro Posted July 12, 2008 Posted July 12, 2008 @GG - Why do people want fly when they weren't designed for ? :P Yeah night missions, hardcore :D Reminder: Fighter pilots make movies. Bomber pilots make... HISTORY! :D | Also to be remembered: FRENCH TANKS HAVE ONE GEAR FORWARD AND FIVE BACKWARD :D ಠ_ಠ ツ
Flyby Posted July 12, 2008 Author Posted July 12, 2008 Ok all Stay positive. A sniper mission sounds good to me, but I'd like it to be against a Western convoy. I'll play hide and seek if the terrain allows. Hey it's my mission, so why not?;) Maybe then I'll seek out enemy field headquarters, and nail them. Then I'll sneak up on the field armories, and supply depots, and give them a good raking over after I fly to my secret farp to refuel and rearm, and grab a cup of coffee. Of course my flight will be with me, what's left of them. I'll leave the insurgents to those with high blood pressure!:D Flyby out (and spoiling to take on the best the West has to offer) The U.S. Congress is the best governing body that BIG money can buy.
RedTiger Posted July 12, 2008 Posted July 12, 2008 And how are you going to see the car in the night without a night capable combat chopper? :P Why are people trying to make it do things it was NOT designed for? :P QFT. These DCS sims are going to be like a window into very specific time frames and operational abilities. It will be a welcome thing, for me anyway, to have to use the these things as intended.

Avimimus Posted July 13, 2008 Posted July 13, 2008 (edited) And how are you going to see the car in the night without a night capable combat chopper? :P Why are people trying to make it do things it was NOT designed for? :P If I says its night capable then its night capable. All allied units should just give me a 3500m clearance and I'll eject instead of trying to land. This should be perfect for those bombing runs that I plant to do flying backward (so as to use the tail as a shield from small arms fire). Is there anyway to use the radio navigation system for blind bombing? (<- I'm serious) P.S. Is the S-8OM used operationally? It would seem to be worth modelling in this sim... Malleus Posted July 13, 2008 Posted July 13, 2008 What's all this talk about the Ka-50 not being night capable? It CAN fly at night. :) Also, I guess it can use unguided weapons (cannon, rockets) in the dark...
