Don't buy anything yet if it isn't necessary. The schools start next month and I bet the prices will come down even more. And those 4870X2 reviews are done from sample cards so wait for the actual release of them in August 13th for proper reviews. I figure some site will do a test with FSX as it seems to be a quite popular benchmark :)

Purely for DCS a fast dual-core would be the best option, because of its higher clockspeeds, but for more general use I would lean to quadcore pretty quickly. It just offers a lot more performance in stuff like 3d-modeling, photo- and videoediting. Besides, more and more games are supporting multi-core, as opposed to just dual-core.

FSX with SP1 is supposed to support multicore (that would include quadcore), and of course games like Crysis and SC run faster on it as well.

MSI 870A-G54, AMD Phenom II X2 555 @Phenom II X4 B55 BE, 3.2 GHz quad-core, Asus EAH4870 DK/HTDI/512MD5, OCZ Gold Edition DDR3 1333MHz 4GB Kit Low-Voltage. Budget = Cheap = Good :D

Well guys, truth be known I've not had a gaming fix in nearly three years now, since my gaming rig fried. I belong to an online IL2 squadron, but haven't flown that sime or LO/FC in all this time. Lots of reasons for that, but in the final analysis I can be a bit more patient. But still I am itching for a new system. I think I'd like the X38 chipset, and maybe an overclocked 4870, down the road a little ways. As for processors, well Intel is supposed to have dropped prices recently, and I expect them to do so again with the arrival of the Nehelam, so maybe a nice q9xxx will fall into my plans. Too bad the U.S. dollar is down, but that's life. Can't wait forever. Anyone want to buy some 8-track jazz tapes? :D

Sims of interest include:

SoW_BoB

Black Shark (of course)

Jet Thunder

Knights of the Sky (imagine online combat with a modern WW1 sim!)

The new Korean air war sim (if it ever sees the light of day).

MY new system will be purely a gaming rig. The wife's pc serves all other functions.

Flyby out

The U.S. Congress is the best governing body that BIG money can buy.
