  1. I thought he was the Shining Sparrow :P
  2. It would be about 50e for a one way train ticket to Vyborg or a bit more to St. Petersburg and 6-8 hours. And another 50 for the permit to be there, whatever that is called.. visa/visum something. And the fire- and manpower to raid all the gamestores would be a couple of bucks as well :D Well, maybe next month if the boat line to russia without the visum/visa or whatever becomes true :) Oh, It seems we don't have to plan a major robbery after all because of the link Cat just posted :cheer3nc:
  3. Not everyone can apply for a VISA, because at least in here, you have to have a steady income, so it automatically rejects students and unemployed. Visa electron would be nice to have available though, and paypal.
  4. Yeah the 8800GTS handles things better. And you can look at here for some bandwidth results and maybe test for yourself: http://www.kegetys.net/forum/index.php?topic=427.0 You don't need 3 monitors to test the bandwidth of the card either It does boost the System memory to video memory, but as you can see from the tests a couple of people have done, it just doesn't cut it for the video memory to system memory. Here's a snippet of my result comparison with the GTS 512 and 4870 1gb: This is the 8800GTS 512mb Adapter 0 (\\.\DISPLAY1): NVIDIA GeForce 8800 GTS 512 VM to SM (Download): 1549.63 MB/s SM to VM (Upload): 2082.90 MB/s ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- And this is the exact same computer but only the GPU is HD4870 Adapter 0 (\\.\DISPLAY3): ATI Radeon HD 4800 Series VM to SM (Download): 818.48 MB/s SM to VM (Upload): 2185.40 MB/s You can find more small tests I tried with bandwidth and memory settings under the name Cunha. They're all there The effect was to rFactor that at the highest resolution I got 36fps when with the 8800 I had 48fps on the same track and car (Gp79 and Montreal.) Didn't record anything though. Also there seems to be a problem with the Matrox Triplehead2Go and ATI at the highest supported resolution (5040x1050): http://www.widescreengamingforum.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=14480 There are some more stuff in the racing sim forums somewhere but couldn't find them
  5. Yes the driver problems could have been fixed for sure, but like I said, the main reason was that I play with three monitors and a big resolution (5760x1200) and that problem can't be fixed. The drop in rFactor was something like 12fps with the ati card and I couldn't even bother trying lockon. Would have been unplayable. And I only had it for a couple of days so no big tweaking sessions were possible and I really didn't even want to start that all over again. And no matter what I would have done, it still wouldn't have solved the main problem. I really did want this card but it wasn't just acceptable for my use. I've had ATI cards before with no problems but I didn't play simulators back then with multiple monitors either. No Nvidia fanbois here :v:
  6. I had the 1Gb 4870 for a couple of days and I have to say... I'm going back to nvidia :P The FPS were better in the ATI card in crysis and Hell's highway, but then at a certain level in the hells highway, it would just start bugging because of bad drivers or something. Changed to the 8.10 and same thing + freeze. And just don't like the catalyst control center either. Somehow just too.. something. Not complicated but something that just doesn't feel right. Maybe they're too red and the bad layout, I don't know :D But maybe all of those could have been sorted out eventually, but the main thing is that I get worse fps with triplescreen in SoftTH with the HD4870 than the 8800GTS 512. So for one screen and if you like to tinker with drivers all day long instead of gaming, then go for ati. But for simplicity and multimonitor go nvidia. @ 1920x1200 resolution it really doesn't matter.
  7. Here is a review about the Palit design of the 1gb 4870. A different, more powerful cooler and the structure of the card itself is different as well and it has an overclock button. Like that matters :P The same model is produced by Palit, Xpertvision and Gainward: http://www.legionhardware.com/document.php?id=778
  8. Yes the old one has been, but I meant the Pro PE. That hasn't been cracked and what a good thing it is :)
  9. That's why it's better to just buy the game from a store than download it. Always useful to have the cd around :) And including a manual is just too expensive, let alone the 600+ pages with BS. I would like to see a copy protection that would turn your chopper into a seagull if it's pirated, like arma and that with starforce combined so that it would just explode your computer if its an illegal copy :) I don't really care if call of dutys and every other “play once and forget“ -type of games are pirated, but simulations are much more than just games and can be played over and over again without much boredom. So if they have replay value, they must be bought. Maybe a copy protection like steelbeasts could be implemented at some point? It has a little USB stick that comes with the black box with a big manual :) Leave the manual out of it and the price might not increase too much.. a bunch of random thoughts here :music_whistling:
  10. Why not? You would have your own little turbine engine there. That's just some added realism :D It seems that people buying aftermarket coolers often go for the Accelero. http://www.arctic-cooling.com/vga2.php?idx=147 It's cheap, big and effective. Another good one is the Hr-03gt http://www.thermalright.com/new_a_page/product_page/vga/hr03gt/product_vga_cooler_hr03gt.htm but that one is a bit more expensive. And that one is harder to install I'd think, because the screws keep falling off. But the problem there is most likely between the chair and the gpu :P I have no experience with the accelero however. Both of them should work with the 4870 though The GTX280 would be the card to get but it is just too expensive. The 4870 1gb seems to be very affordable and playing at very high resolutions, it might be the one I'll go for. Great value. And the (rumored) GT212 isn't coming till next year and Nvidia will then again skyrocket the card prices so one can keep dreaming about that one forever.
  11. How long will the Ka-50 fly or hower with a full tank of fuel? And what about with the extra fuel pods? Can the signal flares be used the same way as the defensive flares? Not through the programming mode of course but if I run out of regular flares, will they still trick the IR missiles? Thanks :)
  12. Is there any news about the next producers note? Data link? The previous was 2 months 3 days ago :)
  13. He is just a bot or something. Do not press the links, just use the report button and mods will come to the rescue :)
  14. Never thought I would be excited to see screenshots from the gui, but the menus do indeed look very stylish and easy to use :)
