Bobelayer Posted February 3, 2021 Posted February 3, 2021 Does anyone else think the sound physics need worked on? Not the sounds themselves. I think the sounds are fantastic. I'm talking about the physics of the sounds. I think sound needs to travel a lot farther. You cannot even hear the A-10s gun past about a mile away when servicemen in Afghanistan have said they could hear the Hogs gun from up to 3 miles away or more. Also, you cannot hear fighter jets flying over at altitude either. A jet will flyby at low altitude, and once it gets past just over a mile you can't hear it. I'm sure a lot of you have been to airshows irl before and have heard and seen a fighter fly and once it gets far away you can still hear it. In fact, just yesterday there was an F-15E Strike Eagle in the pattern at the airport near my house and I could hear it on the upwind 6 miles away... I just think the sound physics really need worked on. Hopefully this is on a planned list somewhere. Happy flying 7
Aarnoman Posted February 8, 2021 Posted February 8, 2021 I agree, particularly jet engines and gunfire sounds don't seem to carry particularly far and become attenuated earlier than they do in comparable video footage. 1
ED Team btd Posted February 10, 2021 ED Team Posted February 10, 2021 The current version of the DСS allows you to hear the sound of a FA-18 engine, for example, from behind at a distance of 7-7.5 kilometers. From the front, the distance will be shorter depending on the relative speed between the aircraft and the listener. This is how Doppler works. It seems in real life, it depends of some factors but the Bang has already heard till 30km Sorry link are in french: https://www.bruit.fr/images/acoustique_techniques/AT67-33-39_compressed.pdf https://tel.archives-ouvertes.fr/tel-00487912/PDF/TheseMenexiadis.pdf Best regards Edited February 21, 2021 by Phil C6 1

I know how Doppler works. I know you can’t hear from the front. But the fact in real life you can hear a fighter flying over at 30,000 feet but you can’t in DCS is annoying. Gun sounds don’t travel very far, jet sounds don’t travel very far, explosion sounds are too muffled at distance, etc. also, in some cases, you can’t hear the jet engines from behind the aircraft but you’ll hear the gun fire at that distance. It’s odd. On 2/21/2021 at 1:42 PM, Phil C6 said: Hi I'm agree the sound range seems too short specially the supersonic bang. The sonic booms seem to not travel very far at all.

It’s odd. Exactly. The sonic booms seem to not travel very far at all. I see. Well, it's not a problem of a sound engine. There are separate settings for each sound, that adjust the sound radius for it. It is impossible to raise the sound range of everything with one setting. It is necessary to change all hundreds or thousands of settings separately for all sounds that you want to increase along the sound radius. And because of this the overall sound mix may change. Thanks for your report, we will keep in mind that we should increase the radius of loud sounds at about 30%. Although I'm not sure if it's worth it. Cause this will put an additional load on the game engine and may change the sound balance, and not necessarily for the better. 1 Best regards, Kanstantsin Kuzniatsou (btd) https://soundcloud.com/btd
