Hello all, I am a console gamer (Series X) but nothing on a console looks as interesting in simulation flight/combat as DCS. I have a couple questions if you guys can help me out so I know if I should purchase and invest the time into the game.

1) I hate using a keyboard and mouse to play, what is everyone using for a flight stick setup or is it a keyboard and mouse must?
2) I don't game on my PC, how will my PC perform with DCS?
PC Specs:
CyberPowerPC
Intel (R) Core(TM) 17-9700F CPU @ 3.00GHz 3.00 GHz
64 GB Installed RAM
NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2060 SUPER
1TB HDD

Thank you in advance.

Your PC will do fine for now. Just don't start with every setting cranked up to max but do it the other way around.

HOTAS: Thrustmaster, VKB, VIRPIL, Logitech (Saitek), MFG... look for info in the Input/Output part of the forum.

Depending on the HOTAS you gonna use, you can circumvent your keyboard and mouse if you want (although i still use the mouse, even in VR).

Win11 Pro 64-bit, Ryzen 5800X3D, Corsair H115i, Gigabyte X570S UD, EVGA 3080Ti XC3 Ultra 12GB, 64 GB DDR4 G.Skill 3600. Monitors: LG 27GL850-B27 2560x1440 + Samsung SyncMaster 2443 1920x1200, HOTAS: Warthog with Virpil WarBRD base, MFG Crosswind pedals, TrackIR4, Rift-S, Elgato Streamdeck XL.

Personal Wish List: A6 Intruder, Vietnam theater, decent ATC module, better VR performance!

Thank you, I have been playing a lot of War Thunder on the console and the aircraft controls on a controller suck - I have looked at the HOTUS: Thustmaster already - thanks for the information!

Keyboard is used by most because of different key combos while mouse is used to click the cockpit switches and buttons. Some use it for looking around too. Most of the controls can be binded to any other device.

For looking around most use head tracking (for monitor users) or just VR sets.

HOTAS (as a set of two separate devices: stick and throttle) is highly recommended. Even cheap one like HOTAS X allows you to easily start with flying and see if you're into it. T16000 and TWCS, much better set but still on the budget side, can stay with you a bit longer and won't hold you back. Pedals are not mandatory but can take you deeper into the immersion - you'll need them more for the helicopters or older aircraft.

Also tablets or smartphones can be used as indicators or touch devices with additional software like Helios.

Finger worn pointers with a few buttons are another option.

There are also MFD's, button/rotary sets or whole home pits but the latter are rather DIY type.

Last but not least there are jet seats, simshakers and alike as another sense for feeling G, engines and high AoA.

Your PC is fine. I'd say ready for older VR sets.

Thank you, I didn't intend to game with this PC, it was more for content creation.
