Install to a different drive

Was told (by DCS themselves) that you can install v2.5 to an external SSD. The question is how? It doesn’t give me the option. It just goes ahead with the C drive and then tells me there isn’t enough space, which is why I want to put it somewhere else.

Please help. My shiny brand new 1TB drive is feeling rather left out!

A way working is to use the skatezilla program.

https://forums.eagle.ru/topic/134493-the-dcs-updater-gui-utility/

grab or make a copy of the entire folder of your game and drop it on your new 1TB hdd.

Once done

launch the skate zilla program and select the path of your game on your new drive as the default path.

Now at each time you launch the game from the skatezilla  stuff,the game from your new drive will run.

You may even keep your previous install working.

And with the skatezilla gui you may return to old  install.You may have also two different version installed and pass from one to other.

Ok guys. It's working now and v2.5 is up and running. Not the easiest program to use as it has 2 settings buttons, only one of which does anything. Also,

the only way I could get it to update to 2.xx was by using the advanced settings tab. I would have thought that updating was one of its basic functions. Still, I figured it out.

Just Judging by the appearance of the planes in v2, it was all worth the trouble! But why do DCS make things so difficult?

Thanks for all your patience.

I think I found the right way to do this, it's shown in the following link.   So far everything works as supposed including all short-cuts.

1. Create a system restore point before doing the following;

2. Go to cmd (Command app running as an administrator:

    robocopy "source" "destination" /sec /move /e Enter, then;

3. mklink "SOURCE" "DESTINATION" /j

It is a simple and sure way to move directories in Windows.  You can move both of OpenBeta and Stable version of DCS , either OpenBeta or Stable to the new drive, it's all your choice.  It works all the time.
