Hey all! Can anyone here weigh in on the Foxy programming software vs. the CH Control Manager? Which is more powerful? Which is easier to use? I've heard Foxy is difficult to use. However, I've seen people run away screaming from Saitek's software which I found to be increadibly easy to use. CH's stuff had more of a learning curve, but I figured it out pretty quick. Can anyone give a fair comparison?

Took me about a week-end or so to get to grips with Foxy and program a pretty decent profile - relatively easy when you get the basics. That said - the programming abilities are mind-boggling and seemingly endless..........I still have a lot to learn :)

Cannot comment on the other, suffice to say that Foxy is Years ahead of the Saitek programming software (As per my previous experience with my Cyborg Evo, X52 and X52 PRO).

Hmm...a week or so. Interesting. Saitek's took literally no time at all, it was obvious from the get go. Installing it was more of a chore than learning to use it. CH took about a half hour for me to figure it out. The software IS more powerful, but I don't know if I use it to its fullest. It seemed like more work for equal reward TBH. I was willing to put up with it since I liked the CH stuff so much.

What about Foxy is difficult? In what ways is it more powerful than something like Saitek's SST?

To learn either of these pieces of software well it will take you much longer then a week. You can probavbly create files and use the basics in that amount of time but the advacned programming capabilities of the CM or the Foxy software is another matter entirely.

The CH Control Manager software is more powerful then the Foxy software in some ways. That is not to say that the Foxy software is weak in this dept either. Suffice it to say you would have to delve quite deeply into the programing of each to really see the differences between them. Most people barely scratch the surface of either.

Both are well written, professional, and capable of very advanced programming. IMHO TM and CH software and controllers are the best of what is available in retail HOTAS systems for simulation today.

I haven't used CH HOTAS ever so I can't comment on that but I do have Cougar and I can easily say that it is a very powerfull software... you can do very much anything with it... but it does take time to learn and discover it's potential... basically I'd say Foxy is as powerfull as you can make it... if you want it simple it can be very simple, such that you can make a profile very quickly... but if you want it do tons of tricks etc you'll need to learn logical programming (and other built in functions) and that takes time... lot more then week...

Hmm...so you guys are saying that Foxy is simple if you want it to be? I've seen people that make it seem like its very difficult.

For example. Lets say I want to map the "G" key to a button so I can put my gear down. In SST, the way to do this is obvious. There's a big white space that you can click on. You click and a blinking cursor appears, just like a text program. You hit the "G" key and it shows a picture of the key in the space. You name it "Landing Gear" in the space that is obviously meant for a name.

In CH Control manager, it isn't so simple. First you have to tell it what product you want to use. This step is an extra step but handy since you can have all your hardware be recognized as one single device. Once you add the product, you're presented with a picture and some drop down menus that allow you to map every button to some default direct input button (button 1,2,3,etc.). You have to uncheck the "DXmode" box to get the button to be map-able. Then you have to right click on the open field and pick "record keystrokes", which is confusing since that open field looks like you can just type the keystroke in it. You CAN, but the results were never what I wanted...

The results are exactly the same but because of the advanced options on Control Manager, it makes it much more difficult.

Ok, so now you all know how to use SST and Control manager. :D How does Foxy compare to these? More like CH I'm guessing?

Here's a pic of the Foxy GUI - Keeping in mind that this is an extract of a relatively simple profile........

You see the Macro File (right) and attendant Joystick File (left) which illustrates a simple programming profile just to give you a basic idea.

There are as said before a myriad of functions to it - like a Kid in a Candy-Store with Foxy I tell ya :D

Gibberish I tell you! :joystick:

J/K ;) ...I can kinda see where that would be overwhelming for someone but I can already determine how a bit of that probably works. I guess if you bought a Cougar you wouldn't just give up on it because the software is hard.

I think I've seen enough. My question has been answered I think. :)

I just gave in and got a Cougar a few days ago and now I'm making a profile.

I've got a quick question. Is the following possible?

Let's say I have a time window of 1000ms for example. I want to program it so that if I press a button one time during that time window, it will execute command 'a' after the time has elapsed. If I press this button twice in this time window, it will execute command 'b' after the time elapsed. If I press this button three times in this time window, it will execute command 'c' after the time has elapsed. And so on and so forth.

I was reading a thread on the logical programming part of Cougar World a few days ago and I thought I remembered seeing something like this, but the site is down right now.

Anyone know how to do this?
