Lo+Vista64 = no joy?

Ive read a lot of posts saying that the combination does not work,

then again I've also read some saying it does work.

 

ERROR: However I keep getting "Lockon has stopped responding...." or

sometimes it just freezes (only the game, I can still ctl+alt+del and shut

it down)

 

The game is newly installed, as is the OS

Hardware is :

E8400

xfx 790 ultra si

sapphire hd4870 on catalyst 8.7, tried both with & w/o cat AI

4gb ram

Vista64 business with sp1 and all latest updates.

AERO OFF

 

System is 24h prime/memtest stable (0 errors/warnings)

System runs 24h straight in other games without crashing.

Examples : Crysis/Bioshock/3dmarkLoop dx10

 

Game settings:

 

Tex : High

Sce : med

Shadows : active

effects: med

blur : off

haze : basic

res : 1920x1200

 

AA : 4x

AF : 4x

 

Running the game and trackir as admin and xp_sp2 compatibility . (also tried without)

UAC is enabled. (since admin this shouldnt make any difference)

 

 

I would use xp32 if it wasnt for the fact that i really need to use all my 4GB ram

and I have applications that require more than 2 GB. A 32bit OS isn't going to cut it,

and I read lockon has the same problem in xp 64.

I had LockOn running in Vista x64 for a while before I moved back to 32bit. Got tired of Nvidia screwing sata-raid users out of decent drivers. You should check the error log in your lockon directory and post your issues here.

Are those files cleared ever time the game is started?

I have restarted it a few times since the last crash, so I probably need to

wait for another crash to get that log :/

 

Got xp32 in dualboot now....will see how it goes. Frustrating having to change OS

depending on what applications to run!

No, they keep an entire log until you delete them. At least that is usually the case for me.

 

well mine are sort of empty :P

Anyway, with identical settings (copied the entire lockon folder) it runs fine

in windows xp, so its clearly something with the OS and/or drivers.

well ive changed drivers for all my other devices.....maybe ill try later, but I dont know if

hd4870 would have any omega fixes. However the ...005-exception in lockon+vista64 is a

widely spread problem among many here on this forum... Seems to be related to vista rather than

gfx driver. It is possible that some OS setting is causing this.

There is only ONE effective fix for Vista/LockOn (be it 64 or 32) and thats to install XP.:thumbup:

Well I've been having the same issue for a couple weeks now, since I upgraded to a GTX280. Vista x64 and nvidia gfx card. Playing with a 8800GTX before that I had no problem what so ever. Finally installed the latest Geforce drivers v177.83 WHQL and seems like all is back to normal again, no crashes yet. I suggest you try those... You can d/l from majorgeeks.com, or via my specs pages in my sig.

I am using ATI card TEC :P

anyway i got dualboot working now and xp runs rock solid for lockon.

i really wished i had some clue what triggers the problem for me in vista.

Anyway, it runs perfect for me in XP, so I'm stuck with dualboot for the moment.

I loaded Vista X64 and lockon FC 1.12b and it works fine for me. My onboard sound would not work in TeamSpeak so I installed an old Creative SB Live 5.1 to solve THAT problem.

I flew FC off and on over a period of about 2 weeks on the X64 side (multi boot/OS system) and had no problems whatsoever. I also didn't see any differences performance-wise vs XP.

Since all my other software is on xp side, I just fly with it.

Before I loaded FC, I just googled/searched/read forums to see all the potential problems and paid MOST attention to those who were SUCCESSFUL in getting it to work.

 

Like all else in the computer world, most of those who fail to get apps to work, it is something they overlook due to inexperience or lack of knowledge. So read those who post the RIGHT way to do it :D

I mean not just launching from lockon.bat, but a completely new installation.

 

Also I would advice to update StarForce drivers and try with UAC off. Just for a case.

Newly installed Windows Vista install is what I used. (Installed it 1 day before lockon I think)

The lockon isntall was also clean.

 

However I did not try updating star force drivers.

 

Anyway, thanks for help and I will check on the star force update when i

get time. Have been running xp32 now. Not a single crash in xp32 since i made this thread.
