macman1 Posted April 6, 2021 Posted April 6, 2021 (edited) Hey, I'm trying to figure out my next step in regards to getting a video card that will handle 5 monitors (3 main monitors) and two thrustmaster MFD's with small lilliput monitors behind them. I know GPU prices are steep now, but looking for when prices come down a bit. Presently I have a geforce 1060 that runs fine with 5 available outputs, but only can run 4 monitors max. Thanks. macman1 Posted April 6, 2021 Author Posted April 6, 2021 (edited) HellsBells - Right on, thanks for the quick reply. Looks like you've got quite a setup as I thought five monitors was pretty extreme. I checked this model, but looks like it only has 4 outputs. Do you run dual cards? I was fiddling around with the monitor .LUA settings last night just to get the hang of things and at least try to get one MFD LED set up. Would it be possible for you to send me or post here a copy of your .lua file? I would just modify it to take out the extra 65" monitor? Edited April 6, 2021 by macman1 more info
InfinityWingman Posted April 7, 2021 Posted April 7, 2021 This may not answer your question exactly, but I run a 1080ti with 3 monitors, VR and a Mimo USB touchscreen monitor. I use that with Helios. You could run 2 USB monitors no problem. ASUS Z390 / Intel i7-9700K / 32 GB DDR4 / 1080Ti / HP Reverb 2 / Thrustmaster WH&TPR Heath and Allen Zedi8 / TrackIR / Momo USB monitor / Akai MPD218

macman1 Posted April 7, 2021 Author Posted April 7, 2021 GaryR - Great setup, this is exactly how I hope to run my rig. I may be missing something here, but it seems there are only four output slots on the GPU, so how do you run your primary 3 monitors, and the lilliput MFDs. Seems to me that is five screens with four output slots??? 1

macman1 Posted April 10, 2021 Author Posted April 10, 2021 Yep - I understand now that the lilliputs are only USB. Learn something new everyday, thanks to the great Forum here and the helpful members.
CorporalCarrot Posted April 11, 2021 Posted April 11, 2021 I have a highend mobo with two full size PCIe slots (designed for nvidia SLI and AMD crossfire) and I use two separate GPU cards (not SLI'd or crossfired). I have an RTX3090 as my main GPU for doing 4k triples (sometimes dropped to 2k for FPS) and then I have my 'old' RTX2080 which outputs the screens in the cockpit (MFDs, CDU etc.) and some other screens on my racing rig too (which is next to my A-10 cockpit and shares the same PC). I use a beefy 4k HDMI matrix to switch the triples between the A-10 Cockpit and my racing cockpit. TBH the RTX2080 is total overkill for the auxiliary screens. I could probably get away with a GTX970 or less for the auxiliary screens. If you plan to upgrade anytime soon, then it's worth considering getting a motherboard that has two PCIe x16 slots, and keeping your old GFX card as an output for the auxiliary screens. Make sure you read your mobo specs carefully though, it is common for only one PCIe x16 slot to actually run at x16 (which you should use for your main output) and second or third x16 slots actually run at x8 or even x4.

macman1 Posted April 22, 2021 Author Posted April 22, 2021 Thanks for the assistance. Got things working using a USB 15 inch monitor to put the two MFDs on. Helios, once you get the hang of it, was great. This really adds to the level of simulation and wants me to do more cockpit building now.
