FreTo036 Posted April 7, 2021 Posted April 7, 2021 Hey everyone, I've been looking all over the internet and can't seem to find anybody who encounters the same problem: When flying in DCS I lately have the problem, that after a random amount of time the volume on the headset drops considerably to where I barely hear anything anymore. Like anyone else probably would, I counter this by turning up the volume. However, after another random amount of time, volume goes back to normal, therefore blasting out my ear drums. This happens at irregular intervals, sometimes multiple times, sometimes not at all. I can't seem to find the root of the problem, nor anybody with an idea as to how to fix this. It used to work without a problem, but unfortunately I can't pinpoint the time when this problem started, so I am not sure whether it was a windows update, DCS update or something random. I would be super happy if anybody had an idea on how to fix this, at it is becoming very annoying. Thanks woody
ED Team BIGNEWY Posted April 7, 2021 ED Team Posted April 7, 2021 Check you are on the latest windows update, and check your earphones. I had an issue recently with mine playing very distorted sounds, but after a windows update and a restart it was better for me. Forum rules - DCS Crashing? X_legio Posted April 7, 2021 Posted April 7, 2021 There is a firmware update for the Reverb G2 related to the audio, start with an upgrade.
Dodge Posted April 7, 2021 Posted April 7, 2021 Unsure if the HP Firmware update for the HP Reverb G2 Audio relates to your issue but its worth checking (as already mentioned by X_legio) HP Reverb G2 Audio Firmware Update https://support.hp.com/us-en/drivers/selfservice/hp-reverb-g2-virtual-reality-headset/33835976 Type: Firmware Version: 14 Rev.A Operating systems: Windows 10 (64-bit) Release date: Mar 12, 2021 Description: This package contains the updated audio firmware for the HP Reverb G2. FreTo036 Posted April 16, 2021 Author Posted April 16, 2021 sorry everybody for being AWOL for a bit. I finally had the chance to test it out after I had run the update with firmware and another windows update today, but just as I was ready to call it a day, sound went quiet again. So unfortunately what you guys suggested didn't help. I will try yet another USB port and see if that makes any different. Thanks for the suggestions so far though!
unlikely_spider Posted April 16, 2021 Posted April 16, 2021 Have you unscrewed the headphones and put them back on? I did that to each and they are better than they were, when I had crackling or sound cutoff issues. They use two little spring pins which seem to be prone to losing contact with the metal indents for some reason. Modules: Wright Flyer, Spruce Goose, Voyager 1
FreTo036 Posted April 18, 2021 Author Posted April 18, 2021 I will try whether the USB port changed anything first. The sound is crystal clear and it always affects both sides at the same time, so I doubt that it has anything to do with the headphones themselves. I have the feeling that it's either a connection problem between the headset and the computer or a software problem. Either way, if the different port won't bring an improvement, I'll give your suggestion a try.
Brainfreeze Posted April 18, 2021 Posted April 18, 2021 also try to see if it is related to sound volume or not i9 14900K / 64GB / RTX 4090 / Varjo Aero / Winwing Orion2 + F15EX / Virpil Wrbrd + Alpha Stick + ACE pedals

Unfortunately this didn't work either. I have a few more USB ports to try. As to brainfreeze's post: not quite sure which way you mean it. 1) Is it related to overall volume level as it can be set in the task bar? I wouldn't swear that it's not, as I get an indication on screen when that changes, but I do not think so. 2) Does it effect all and every sound being played in that moment? I assume so, since SRS sounds are affected as well, can't tell for sure, as other than SRS and DCS I don't have anything else playing. I will try to find out and answer both possibilities.
FreTo036 Posted April 25, 2021 Author Posted April 25, 2021 New findings: The set (windows)volume level does not change. When the issue occurs and I adjust volume, it starts at the last set value. Not 100% confirmed yet, but relatively sure: only DCS and SRS did appears to be affected.
FreTo036 Posted May 4, 2021 Author Posted May 4, 2021 So I thought I had found the issue when deactivating a Realtek driver in windows... I didn't yesterday the issue appeared again (with the driver still deactivated) BUT only DCS was affected. SRS remained at the same volume.

calys Posted February 28, 2023 Posted February 28, 2023 (edited) I try to tell my experience, sorry for the bad English. I've had problems with the Reverb's audio since the beginning. Reading countless posts and videos on the internet, I discovered that the problem was the Reverb's usb cable. I contacted HP support who in record time (one day) sent me version two of the usb cable. Trying the Reverb with the new cable didn't solve the problem. At that point I started doing different tests. After several tests I think I figured out what it was. I was using SteamVR to use Reverb with DCS. So I uninstalled SteamVR and installed OpenXR. My problems solved and in addition I gained at least FPS. So if you too have these problems do like me. Hi everyone. Antonio. PS: To install OpenXR I used this guide: Edited February 28, 2023 by calys S.O: Win 64bit MB: ASUSTek TUF GAMING X570P/Alim: 850 watt Corsair 850TXEU CPU: AMD Ryzen 7 5800X3D 8 Core/GPU: nVidia RTX3070 8GB (GIGABYTE Technology) RAM: DDR4 64 GB 1600Mhz Accessories: Thrustmaster Hotas Warthog
