So, I was curious about the operation of the maneuver flaps. When I don't have the DLC/Maneuver Flaps bound to an axis, they seem to deploy automatically at high alpha. I presume this is an automatic ADC-driven function. After I've bound the axis, most of the time the maneuver flaps don't auto-deploy. Is the auto mode tied to a certain position or range of the control axis? And is there any decent way to tell where this position is while flying?

Just assign them to either key bindings or self-centering axis. They will auto retract/deploy under the right conditions (computer controlled), or you can override them by pushing the proper key/axis thus keeping the retracted or deployed at will.

With flaps up and DLC disengaged forward rotation retracts maneuvering flaps/slats and aft rotation extends them.

This would mean default position (centered on axis) is auto. Since it's a self-centered wheel on the F-14's stick you can't see the position, you just feel the force on the thumb when using it or know it's centered when not using it. You can only see the effects on the slats/flaps indicator.

I used to have it set as axis on the rotary which is always set to forward unless using DLC and just realised how terrible mistake I made 😄

...or in the mirrors - that's where I check first! Engaging DLC slightly raises the spoilers - DLC "down" raises them further/fully - DLC "up" drops them flush...
