skywalker22 Posted May 1, 2021 Posted May 1, 2021 Its for AIM-129C missile. When you get a Lauch Authority, this vertical line inside DDI with 3 horizontal small lines has maximum, optimum and minimum range appears. Just that the optimum range (middle one) is so close to the minimum range. That'a very strange. It doesn's seem correct. Shouldn't be way higher, closer to maximum range? Im new to F/A-18 aircraft, coming from Su-27, which also has that, so that's why I'm asking, why is here so strange.
dundun92 Posted May 1, 2021 Posted May 1, 2021 DCS DLZs are just... broken to say the least. I never use them, except the Flankers, which is somewhat reliable. 1 Eagle Enthusiast, Fresco Fan. It’s one thing to complain but then tell us why it is “wrong”. I don’t see an an issue with the picture posted up top. Then again, A2A isn’t my thing so what do I know... "It's not the years, honey. Solution Bunny Clark Posted May 2, 2021 Solution Posted May 2, 2021 The middle point isn't really an "optimum" range, it's the No Escape range. It's the range at which if the target turns 180° away from you and runs, the missile will still be able to reach it with enough energy for an intercept. When firing against a fast target, the no escape range will be fairly short. 2 Oil In The Water Hornet Campaign. Jak525 Posted May 2, 2021 Posted May 2, 2021 Bunny is right. That said IIRC the Hornet avionics displaying the launch zones have not yet been updated in accordance with the AMRAAM performance rework. So your cuing is representative of the AMRAAM pre-rework. So it's a very very conservative if not completely inaccurate cue. 2

GGTharos Posted May 2, 2021 Posted May 2, 2021 'Optimum' range is usually something just inside of Rmax and is meant to be used against non-maneuvering targets. It guarantees certain missile capabilities at intercept time, and may be defined by Pk or other values. I've tested DCS missile kinematics extensively, and the DLZs just dont match, not even close. 10 hours ago, Jak525 said: Bunny is right. Bunny Clark Posted May 2, 2021 Posted May 2, 2021 Yah, DLZs definitely don't seem quite right. For a while the DLZ display on the Radar page didn't match the NIRD on the HUD either, but I think that got fixed? I don't usually pay much attention to the Radar DLZ when I'm doing an intercept.
