TANKER NOT RESPONDING!

Greetings!

I've created a mission on DCS Mission Editor.
Whatever I do, the KC135 MPRS, is not responding.

1.) Easy radio is 'unchecked', both in my settings and mission's settings.

2.) the radio is tuned and checked, different UHF AM (F16 com 1) frequencies have been tried and tested.

3.) DCS repair has been done.

P.S.

- Mission attached below.

- I can perfectly communicate with the tanker in SP Instant Mission AAR

- I can communicate with tankers on multiplayer servers as well.

I would highly appreciate any help.

Thank You

Viper cannot tank off the MPRS. Only the KC-135 boom tanker

As such, the MPRS will give you a stiff ignoring. IRL, MPRS will do both boom and drogue, but not in DCS

Really? I didn't know that.

I'll change the tanker and revert back asap.

Thank You

Edit: It worked like a charm, I didn't know of this bug.

Thank You Once again!

Technically it's not a bug, but rather a limitation of the current game engine: you can have a tanker with either boom or drogue, but not both at the same time. It is a shame indeed.

IRL, a MPRS KC-135 couldn’t refuel with both the boom and the drogue at the same time. The fuel plumbing won’t allow for it & aircraft being refueled would bump wingtips. Receivers are usually deconflicted by timing, but there are occasions when boom & drogue recievers show up at the same time.  Typically, we’d refuel the boom receiver first, since the offload rate is so much faster, then do the drogue recievers next.

Yeah, MPRS version doesn't have a functional boom, and it's not obvious at a glance. It should be able to refuel boom and drogue aircraft in the same sortie (though not at the same time, see above). Chalk it up to old code that doesn't take it into account that such tankers exist.

As you said, the KC-135 MPRS in real life can do both, actually three different types of refueling:

1. MPRS - provides two drogue-refueling points at the KC-135's wingtips without affecting the centerline boom's capability

2. boom - MPRS cannot not be used at the same time (planes like F/A-18 and F-16 can interchange between each other)

3. drogue refueling through the use of the boom-drogue adapter (BDA), but it has to be install on the ground, and cannot be changed during flight. Limitation is that MPRS cannot be used.

Due to DCS engine limitation, MPRS tanker cannot use the boom version. I hope this will be changed in the future.

I don't think there's much point of installing the Iron Maiden (BDA) if MPRS is available. Then again, if you're doing a lot of basket refueling, it might be useful. As in, you can threaten the  pilots that if they rip off both baskets, they'll get a go at the Maiden instead. 🙂
