Good afternoon,

I finally took the leap, turned on my game desktop for first time in months, downloaded updates and am now 2.7ob ready.
can someone point me to the latest “best practices “ for setting up the Index with 2.7? I have seen many nvidia, steam, dcs ect posts, any clearing house post or video that walks thru them all?
thanks.

You can just try to keep it simple.  Leave NVIDIA and SteamVR settings at default for now (this is equivalent to 150% SS for the Index, motion smoothing on).  Use VR preset in DCS setting and PD of 1.0.  Reduce shadows or turn off MSSA as needed to get the desired fps.  I recommend headset frequency setting at 80 Hz on the Index, so you can aim for 40 fps rather than 45 with the default 90 Hz.

Rehade VR is also crucial, it makes MFCD readable for me.  The default preset good enough for first use, but isn’t ideal as it has too much contrast and little brightness which can cause loss of black level detail on the Index.

You absolutely need the VR shaders mod to get the game smooth enough with 2080ti (I have the same card). This mod gives you the best noticeable performance boost.

Then the Reshade VR. It'll add a bit more sharpness and color saturation. On my HP G2 it makes a huge difference, however I don't know how effective it'll be on Index with its washed out color contrast.

I have a Index and can confirm it's amazing even at 250% SS I fly with. The saturation alone is worth it but the sharpness is also nice.

Thanks. Is reshade vr and the VR shaders mod two Separate things? Also, effects on MP as thats all I do?
Thanks again!

To take a full advantage of the Index's high luminance, increase the headset's brightness to 160%.  In DCS, this will allow you to retrieve more detail in black areas (cockpit, DDI, MFD, shadows, dark objects on the ground).  It also doesn't cause any blown highlights (I tested with white saturation and black level charts on Lagom LCD testing site).  With combination of high brightness and Reshade VR CAS, you can obtain images that really pop--bright and vibrant without blown out details.  Shimmering is a bit more pronounced with increased brightness, but if your setup can run high supersampling and MSAA then it's not really a big issue.  I'm waiting to do all this with the Vive Pro 2 to see how much I can push that headset to get optimal image fidelity.
