HitchHikingFlatlander Posted October 24, 2008 Posted October 24, 2008 HOTAS isn't meant to replace cockpit switches. They're meant to be used for essential functions just like with real aircraft. I've only assigned commands found on the real HOTAS of the KA-50, so I have heaps of space left on my X-52. I don't plan on adding anything more (beyond push-to-talk) though, as that's what the clickable cockpit (and keyboard) is for. Mind you my Falcon AF profile is pretty nuts, using all 3 modes and pinkies. I guess there needs to be a compromise to cover switches that need to be accessed quicker than using a mouse/keyboard. Thats not what I mean, I mean the whole point of having a programmable stick is to program it! I only use three modes on my x52 at the moment one for flight, combat and navigation and combat is practically the only one used! :pilotfly: There are nine pages of commands, (well 8 1/2 really!) and I am definately not the kind of guy who would try to cram them all onto a HOTAS when there is a perfectly good MS keyboard out there that I can use to my advantage; by programming another 90 one-stroke commands!! This is my hobby, not my profession... and I definately dont have the time to sit around wondering what 'kinda guy' anybody else is!! :D Someday I may have the ambition to build a simpit, but right now its about simplicity, I just dont have much free time, because I work hard IRL!! :weight_lift_2: I work hard too, and its a hobby for me as well. I think your taking me the wrong way I dont think you need to map all the commands to a stick just that using the sticks programmable features is the whole idea of having a programmable stick. The other comments I made were in line with what works for me and what I like, I dont expect you or anyone else to like things the way I do. I've worked hard over the years to come up with a set up for a generic simpit because thats how I like to sim and now I'm about to move up to a larger project that will no doubt be difficult and will probably take years to finish. Thats me though! I'm just trying to be helpful and give an opinion thats all. http://dcs-mercenaries.com/ USA Squad
531-Ghost Posted October 24, 2008 Posted October 24, 2008 Well, you can always get a few CH MFPs :smilewink: :joystick:
drafz Posted October 24, 2008 Posted October 24, 2008 blackshark need to most power core of cpu you can have. scene high, view distance high , targeting with MFD , is a HUGE hole of cpu cycle. A64 2.4ghz , single core, with trackir , saitek & momo wheel pedal (for simulate real helico rudder ;) ) , you have 10 13fps. without count explosion and bullet tracer. With 3Ghz++ core2 core , you can have 2 time that . it make game .... playable. and change the whole experience of flight. so , my answer is : -3ghz ++ core2 duo or quad . - video card according of your resolution , knowing that anything less than 1280 is unreadable on gauge. i say 8800GT or HD4850 512MB - 2GB ram -trackir -flightstick -wheel rudder. (from racing wheel) *and 4 or 5 free usb port indeed :D
Buren Posted October 24, 2008 Posted October 24, 2008 Hey Guys! I've got a lil' problem here, and I didn't want to open a new thread about this, 'cause this seemed to be the place most logical to post my problem So I have this joystick (Saitek Cyborg Evo - not the best but it is good for me), and whenever I play in Sim mode I can't use the throttle to control the collective, but in Game mode I can! I tried to mess around with the config files (apparently I can't set axis or throttles in the controls menu) but no luck. [it gives me an error when I set JOY_Z (the one which the Game mode uses as the collective stick and works) to SLIDER1] So my question is how do I set the joy's throttles to handle the collective in Simulation mode. Thanks in advance, Buren [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]

crazysundog Posted October 25, 2008 Posted October 25, 2008 @ HitchHikingFlatlander, "If you think thats a lot of work then you're the kinda guy that needs a single joystick, rather than a X52, Cougar, or CH set up. The whole point of a HOTAS is in its name Hands On Throttle And Stick............... at least IMO!" This statement is what I was responding to, and I took it as an affront to my personal character, and may have responded harshly, so for that I apologize. The last thing we need around here is more drama, so I'm going to drop the whole matter post haste!! Besides, I'm too excited to program my new keyboard to even worry about it!!
HitchHikingFlatlander Posted October 25, 2008 Posted October 25, 2008 No worries no offense taken, nor did I mean any offense. Nothing translates well on forum, its just not the same as talking in person LOL! http://dcs-mercenaries.com/ USA Squad
urze Posted October 30, 2008 Posted October 30, 2008 There is no perfect Setup out there but you can easily enhance your simulation experience with some simple modifications. Start with a ergonomic position - mount your inputs directly on your Chair/ place the Stick between your legs... This step alone will boost your flying skills more than a fancy stick 20cm in front of a 17" monitor on a 70cm high table. Hope you get my point.
