Night/Dawn/Dusk...basically anything but the middle of the bloody day!

I seem to be being a few raisens short of a musli at the moment. No matter what I try in the mission settings I can't get any other time (or appearance of time of day) than 1200 (mid day). I can't seem to set the sim clock to before 0600 but even at that time the sun is directly above me, indicating a time of around 1200 but I swear even the mission clock things it's the morning.

Any ideas on where I might be going wrong?

You set the Mission Time in the Briefing Screen - be sure to Hit 'OK' or whatever button saves it at the bottom of the screen after setting the time.

Is there a limitation to the time settings you can put in?

No - Dawn/Dusk/Midnight.........Whatever Floats your Boat :)

Personally for the best LockOn experience I'd set the time to 0700 (Sunrise)......Modded correctly (and I mean that in a purely subjective way) LockOn is absolutely Breathtaking.

Viper is correct that Lockon can look terrific at sunrise :)

Good to see that you are wanting to try out different things in Lockon - too many folks only ever fly at Noon in a clear sky in the Summer. All they care about is getting in the air and killin' something. Lockon can be so much more than that, if folks make a little effort to push its boundaries.

Take the time to experiment with the Mission Editor and change the time in (eg) 10 minute increments from before dawn to after sunrise / before sunset to after sunset and see what differences it makes. Then get more creative with the weather - maybe a little low lying fog to fill some valleys, some haze, some clouds, add some ground level wind so the smoke from chimneys (and dead vehicles) doesn't boringly go straight up, etc etc.

Try night flying - change the day of the mission and see the different phases of the Moon. There are Mods by TekaTeka that improve how the moon looks in Lockon - Check out the Download section of LockonFiles or JaBoG32, direct links below.

A good Mod for night flying IMHO is the wartime less bright runway light Mod.

Keep in mind too that LOMAC's "Day 1" is actually June 22, 2005. Days will be longer, since it is summer. Try setting the day to something different like day 40 or something. This will affect the day vs. night conditions too.

Better to try days between 150-275. The differences are much more dramatic. (You will have to make marked changes to the start hour, too.) And, while I can't prove it, I swear that the "atmospherics" of those "autumn-spring" days are much more dramatic for dawn and dusk.

You're probably right. I think that constellations are even modeled correctly so why not different seasonal atmospheres.

They are. Kind of neat, if you know what the constellations are and where to look for them. I was working on some missions that highlighted some of the major constellations but lost them when my hard drive crashed several months ago. Pity because I lost the in-game constellation maps, too.

Indeed they are. A pity that the Moon doesn't take into account the parallactic angle, which looks weird when it sets and rises. Too bad the planets are not in the game as well. Otherwise, very realistic sky!

There are only 10 types of people in the world: Those who understand binary, and those who don't.

Thanks chaps, I already had the moon mod which was what was causing me to pull my hair out as I couldn't figure out how anyone ever saw it unless they were in the air for hours and hours!

Still never mind I will give it a go, I hope it's nothing as silly as forgetting to press the OK button...I will look like a plonker if that is the case.

I do enjoy playing with the games without actually playing the games, I don't think I have actually blown anything up yet...well apart from myself due a few cocks ups on the landings and take offs :D
