DavePastry Posted June 12, 2021 Posted June 12, 2021 Has anyone tried this and achieved good results with DCS? the consensus online is that for general gaming applications overclocking the 3080 is a juice not being worth the squeeze type situation but VR DCS is not really a general gaming application so I'm curious if anyone else has had luck? I910900K, 4090, 32gb,Varjo Aero, no compromises: all VR all the time.
Supmua Posted June 13, 2021 Posted June 13, 2021 You likely won’t see more than 1-2 fps increase in VR at the expense of increased temp and power draw…which sometimes cause instability. It is a lot safer and more economical to just downsample the rendering resolution or turn down some graphics settings. At times especially with flightsims, it’s also the CPU that is the bottleneck instead of GPU. PC: 5800X3D/4090, 11700K/3090, 9900K/2080Ti. Joystick bases: TMW, VPC WarBRD, MT50CM2, VKB GFII, FSSB R3L Joystick grips: TM (Warthog, F/A-18C), Realsimulator (F-16SGRH, F-18CGRH), VKB (Kosmosima LH, MCG, MCG Pro), VPC MongoosT50-CM2 Throttles: TMW, Winwing Super Taurus, Logitech Throttle Quadrant, Realsimulator Throttle (soon) VR: HTC Vive/Pro, Oculus Rift/Quest 2, Valve Index, Varjo Aero, https://forum.dcs.world/topic/300065-varjo-aero-general-guide-for-new-owners/

Maybe pressure NVIDIA to write extra codes that make those RT cores work extra on supersampling, or ED to add DLSS option to DCS. I’ve tried DLSS in VR games such as No Man’s Sky and it works really well retaining good graphics while allowing me to get higher fps. I think my fps jumps by 10-12 with DLSS in that game. btw, for extra clarity try Reshade VR if you haven’t already. The increase in visual quality is quite significant. javelina1 Posted June 13, 2021 Posted June 13, 2021 I've tinkered with under volting my FE. Very satisfied with the cooler GPU/VRAM temps (which helps keep performance consistent). Lot's of good info on the 'net regarding this. That's pretty much where I am with my 3080/9700K both at stock clocks. The sweet spot IS pretty damn sweet though, no problem reading the A-10C cockpit (apart from looking at the really tricky switches by your hips). GPU timings are usually 20ms or high teens which I can live with but I'm hoping the ED give VR some love in the new Vulkan engine. Also hoping it arrives SOON rather than Soon (tm)
