So far I fly over, they shoot me, I see the tracer and dump all rockets where the tracer came from and usually kills the enemy even tough I don't see it.

But I am sure someone figure out better ways to hunt at night. I am Open to ideas.

Take the illumination rockets, aim up 15 degrees and fire 4200m from tgt (i.e. fire a set as you run in). The flares last 40 secs or so. Use that time to kill the enemy if you can.

The distance from the flaring point to the firing point means that it's better if one helo illuminates while the other attacks.

It's a LOT easier in the Ka-50 but after two or three tries I could do a night airfield attack quite easily though of course no SA-8 or similar was present!

How do you find the target to illuminate? Guesswork from the map, then lob the parachute flares in that general direction?

It's hard. Easy with an illuminated airbase as above but generally v difficult. Much easier in the KA-50 where you place the Shkval on the area you want to illum then fire at the precise range. The Hind really isn't meant for this but it's the only thing that works even a bit for a single helo.

Another option in a team is to use a Su-25 etc to drop flare/candle bombs. That works great and lights a huge area. The AI does this well.
