S. Low Posted June 18, 2021 Posted June 18, 2021 I saw the thread in the regular topic listing was marked as solved and a FAQ was posted, but I don't believe this is solved. I'm copying pasting what I just posted in that thread: Someone suggested checking on/off the Rudder Trim and Control Helper options multiple times in the menu to see if it worked after. It actually did work with the controls helper (presumably thats the option where you start with the controls at the top of the screen). But it didn't change the rudder trim. I start with pedals solidly left, and it is not in stable flight as suggested. I'm banking to the left due to heavy pedal input from the start. Trim reset fixes this. This was on Syria - Free flight. LOL ok so some more testing right after the above, I did Syria weapons range. This time the game started me with the controls helper back on, and my pedals also off center while on the pad. I immediately torqued around and crashed while sitting on the pad. I saved the track. I clicked Fly Again. THIS time I started but I held my hand brake. Didn't need to though, because this time I started with the Controls thingy off, and my pedals were centered! WHAT lol. Ok, save track. Try again. The Controls helper thingy is BACK UP TOP and my pedals are depressed to the left again. I'm so confused. Here's the last track. It wouldn't let me post them all. Edit: Went back to menu for a few minutes, then tried Syria - Weapons range again. I selected the ATGM hind. I held the brake lever while clicking out of the briefing menu. Controls are at the top, and my rudder pedals are still trimmed to the left but not nearly as far as other times. ????? Edit 2: Went back to main menu, controls, removed my -15 curve on my pedals. Went back into Syria Weapons Range, ATGM Hind. Didn't hold any buttons or levers. Pedals aren't trimmed this time, controls helper windows are gone. Quit out, clicked fly again. ATGM. LOL PEDALS trimmed FULL to the right at spawn. No control helper windows at top. My game is haunted. I went into the game and was looking at my axis curves for my rudder. Almost every time I clicked on the "tune" for my rudder axis it had my rudder input wayyyyyy over to the left even though I wasnt doing this. Touching the pedals then restored the position. The game is setting my pedals off for some reason. hindpedaltest 4.trk
=7CAV=WEDGE Posted June 18, 2021 Posted June 18, 2021 Well I don't have any good advice to give you I can't even figure out my own stuff but. I did learn this I have better luck saving some of my key binds and axis controls to the file I've done the whole gamut of completely programming my controls for a aircraft only to have some of the keys apparently ghost back to the original default or something I don't know ? I just do a few keep my keys binded save it to the file and keep on going I've had trouble with my rudders with fixed wing and rotary wing forever there always vibrating back and forth have to kick then or flip a couple times and then they steady down and stop

Two things to keep in mind. For air-starts, the helo is pre-trimmed before you take control - it has to be or we would all crash as soon we click FLY. So there will be trim applied before you hop in. Also, all my axes behave as you describe in the axes tuning screen. The graphed position is not even close to accurate until you jiggle the controls a bit to provide some input signal. DCS has always been like that for me. I think it's normal. Edited June 18, 2021 by wowbagger 1 no sig
S. Low Posted June 18, 2021 Author Posted June 18, 2021 Ok that answers the last part about the tune menu for the axes, I never noticed it before but apparently it’s normal. But as I stated I’m doing the quick play weapons range mission, which is a hot start on the ground. And each time I load in I’m randomly getting controls helper on, and off. Each time I load in I’m randomly having pedals locked/trimmed fully in one direction or the other, or not trimmed at all. This cannot be normal behavior Yaw AP is off at the start
wowbagger Posted June 18, 2021 Posted June 18, 2021 I tried your track, here's what I found: - When the mission is loaded your pedal inputs are registering as right pedal pushed. - If you don't touch any controls the helo remains stable on the ground (for me, when I immediately take control). - If you don't touch the pedals, but do touch the other axes, the helicopter starts registering the axes inputs and thinks your are holding the pedals in that right pedal pressed position; helo start spinning to the right. - However the second there is any input on the pedal axis - the in game pedal correct themselves to the proper position -> this behaviour is normal and how it always works for me. ____ Syria Free Flight - The helo starts trimmed with left pedal input. If you don't touch any controls and simply hit Trimmer- reset, the pedals will center themselves the helo will start turning right -> normal behaviour. ___ So I guess my question is, is there something amiss that you feel prevents you from controlling the helo, or are you just analyzing the control input behaviour on mission start and think it looks weird? If you simply jiggle/touch each controller when you start a mission, do they all pop into position and behave accurately according to your inputs? no sig
S. Low Posted June 18, 2021 Author Posted June 18, 2021 I’m analyzing controls as I enter the mission. Free flight Syria mission does not have stable flight at start. It has full left pedal which creates a left bank. Trim reset clears the pedal situation and I can go back to flying. Weapons range ground start is randomized. My pedals sometimes start full left, sometimes full right, sometimes neutral. Most times, being aware of this behavior, I have time to press trim reset to recenter before i spin around on the pad and crash if i spawn in pedals full right, I agree with you that simply touching controls returns everything to normal if I spawn in pedals full left, it requires trim reset. All of these behaviors can be corrected and make the game playable as far as I can tell. My issue is there’s an underlying bug/issue here that is randomizing your controls trim (and the controls helper) at start.
wowbagger Posted June 18, 2021 Posted June 18, 2021 (edited) Okay, sounds manageable right now. It's really hard to visualize and describe all these inputs, virtual and physical. You are correct, "the Free flight Syria mission does not have stable flight at start. It has full left pedal which creates a left bank." Edited June 18, 2021 by wowbagger 1 no sig

Requires me getting out of a birthday party.. hmm. “honey I’ve got important work to do...”
S. Low Posted June 19, 2021 Author Posted June 19, 2021 Not my video but it shows the pedals being "stuck". Start at 9:41 if my link doesn't start there.
