DetroiTechno Posted June 19, 2021 Posted June 19, 2021 I'm new to DCS. I only play warbirds. Shortly after I drank the DCS kool aid the 2.7 beta was released so I started using that. Now 2.7 has been released and we are on to beta 2.7.2. Question: are the beta and non beta servers completely separate? Now that 2.7 has been released will everyone be using that client? Or will a large majority of users continue using the beta client? To beta or not to beta after the 2.7 release? Most servers switch to beta really quick so a lot of the servers run beta but not all. If beta and stable have the same version number, it doesn't matter what you use, both work on the same server. If needed and if you have the space, you can run both versions side by side so you can always get onto the server you want. 2 Win11 Pro 64-bit, Ryzen 5800X3D, Corsair H115i, Gigabyte X570S UD, EVGA 3080Ti XC3 Ultra 12GB, 64 GB DDR4 G.Skill 3600. Personal Wish List: A6 Intruder, Vietnam theater, decent ATC module, better VR performance!
DetroiTechno Posted June 20, 2021 Author Posted June 20, 2021 I reinstalled 2.7.1... There are very different multiplayer rooms on beta vs non beta. The standard version has no warbird servers much less people online. No growling sidewinder and no storm of war. Beta it is then AMD 5950X - AMD 6900XT Red Devil - Reverb G2 Virpil WarBRD base - Virpil Constellation Stick - Thrustmaster Warthog Throttle - Logitech Pro Pedals Get some!
DetroiTechno Posted June 21, 2021 Author Posted June 21, 2021 (edited) Just a thought on this as a new player. It's just a little crazy that the beta has 966 people online and the actual release has 163 at the time I took these images. If you want to play online you need to have the beta. New players will have no idea about this. They would take a look at the rooms available in the 2.7 release and assume DCS has very few people playing online. It may be off putting for new players who probably won't even consider installing the beta. It is what it is I guess. rayrayblues Posted June 21, 2021 Posted June 21, 2021 (edited) The sudden move of 2.7.1 to stable surprised me. Normally it takes up to a year or more for that to happen. One month from release to stable is rare. 2.5.6 was over a year old before it became stable. I addition to the MP issue listed above, all new releases go to beta first. As long as you don't want to buy anything, you can stay on stable. You say you only play warbirds, well, there's some really cool stuff on the horizon and more in the works, including some third party Pacific Theatre assets coming soon. I am "chomping at the bit" waiting for the F4U and the associated naval and ground units coming with the new Marianas Island map. (second release) Then there is the de Havilland Mosquito. I want that one too. The point is, you can stay in your little corner and wait for months to get something new, or join the OB and progress along with the rest of us. I too only wanted to play warbirds. I wasn't interested in anything beyond the Korean war era, but I joined OB when the P-47 came out 'cause I wanted it now. The only reason that I still have 2.5.6 is because of a WW1 mod that came out last year. I really like it, but it's not compatible with 2.7. OB doesn't cost any more money, so what are you waiting for? When the Corsair and the Mosquito come out, I can buy them right away. I won't have to wait 6 months or more for them to go to the stable server. Edited June 21, 2021 by rayrayblues SLAVA UKRAINI MoBo - ASUS 990FX R2 Sabertooth, CPU - AMD FX 9590 @4.7Gb. DetroiTechno Posted June 22, 2021 Author Posted June 22, 2021 (edited) If I want to play multiplayer I need to have the beta. 2.7.1 1057 online in the beta > 143 online in the release. Not sure if this is just a phenomenon with the current beta. But there is absolutely no reason for me to even keep the release on my system anymore. Storm of war is a beta server now as well. It's just a bit sad that new players who try the game will not see any of these beta servers with 10x more players online. Meh.
