Curious about whe BS get's the additional aircraft & fast movers ...

Q: Your press release indicates that Black Shark is the first in a series of DCS modules' date=' with more aircraft/helicopters to follow. How soon will these new aircraft become available?[/i']

A: We are already developing the A-10A “Warthog" and AH-64A “Apache” (with planned front-seat / back-seat multiplayer) and other western and eastern aircraft will follow with an approximate interval of every nine months. To announce these later aircraft now would be premature because plans can often change and lead to delays due to numerous factors such as our work in the equally important military simulation market.

Q: Does the launch of the new DCS series mean the end of Lock On?

A: Absolutely not. The DCS series and Lock On will live side by side for many years to come. The Lock On community is extremely active, with many websites, and new users are purchasing Lock On and Flaming Cliffs every day. Modifications are continually being launched by the communities that enhance the Lock On experience. Though we will not be launching new aircraft for Lock On, we are evaluating a 1.13 patch to meet the continual demands of the Lock On community.

Considering the answer to the 2nd question following the 1st (above) ... I'm tentatively curious if the other aircraft (including the fast movers) will have the same degree of fidelity in avionics/systems as the KA-50 in BS apparently has.

If they do (and I think they've said that the other aircraftf will have to be up to the same standard) ... it will ipso-facto result in the demise of Lomac ... at least as a cfs that is considered in its day to have that level of 'hyper' reality.

I think the precedent was set when Lomac:FC succeeded Flanker 2 ... the same will happen to Lomac.

But!! Das ist gut! Это хорошая! (courtesy of http://www.howtosayin.com/)

Over the years I've divested myself of bucket-loads of drool day-dreaming about a sim like BS with the jets ... I think that the wait is nearly over, I think I see Wags & the ED team shining a torch from the end of a tunnell ... hang on fella's I'm coming!! :joystick::D

"A true 'sandbox flight sim' requires hi-fidelity flyable non-combat utility/support aircraft."

Wishlist Terrains - Bigger maps

Wishlist Modules - A variety of utility aircraft to better reflect the support role. E.g. Flying the Hornet ... big yawn ... flying a Caribou on a beer run to Singapore? Count me in. Extracting a Recon Patrol from a hastily prepared landing strip at a random 6 figure grid reference? Now yer talking!

... and of course, that might quite possibly mean that DCS will have to model aircraft from the cold war era ... what an orgasmatronic supposition that would be :music_whistling:.

So what is your point or question? ;)

I was ruminating my dear Sobek (while I wait for my own sweet copy or two or three of BS) ... upon statements in the Q&A section made by the BS team ... the point being that despite what is said officialy vis-a-vis the longevity of Lomac ... nothing really has been said because said longevity relies on continued support from the community.

My guess is that the 'community'will migrate en-masse to BS as soon as the fast jets become available ... at that point Lomac will be as good as dead ...

P.S. Btw .. what's the picture in your avatar ... I've been trying to work it out! :)

It's my two feet on a slackline, glad finally someone asked :D

Good, fast, cheap. Choose any two.

Looks like someone walking on a rope.

Not really. Looks like the "rope" just ends in the middle of the air. :D Looks more like feet on a branch to me.

Yep i know its a slackrope, but still.

And yes, on topic, i agree. When the jets are introduced i think most people will fly DCS. Then again, for a couple of fast movers, we have years to wait. So Lockon will be valid for some time.

To Teapot:

I think to call LO dead is a little off the point. Blackshark continues the product, albeit with a new "series", and a new name. It's a natural progression--and I think it would be accurate to say that if there had been no LO, there would be no BS.

... and without Flanker 2 there would have been no Lockon ... I'm in complete agreement.

I think Alex did the math well (thanks Alex :D), it will probably be another 27 months before the first fast jet arrives on the scene. So Lockon won't be going on life support just yet .

It's not a rope, its tubular webbing, a rope would be hurtful to bare feet. The anchor point is on the tree that's visible in the background, it's just hard to see because there is a black protection cloth around the webbing at the anchor.

OT: I think the fast movers will make pretty much every old sim obsolete, not only LO, although there may be some hardliners sticking to their loved ones;).

I can forsee a time (in the not so distant future) where the whole combat sim "community" fly DCS, and people will need to specialise in 1 or 2 aircraft.

The depth of knowledge required will make it nearly impossible to be expert in all 8 or 9 planned airframes (let alone any future).

..still it'll be fun trying them all out.

Man, I hope ED can keep the torch burning

I agree completely! Lockon will live on until we have a Russian and American fighter in DCS. As for input on which fighter should come next, see sig... and here's why.

Su-27: As teapot pointed out, without flanker there would be no LO and without LO there would be no DCS BS. Lockon and DCS have their roots in the Su-27 Flanker and not modeling it properly (and soon) would be a disservice.

F/A-18: Carrier ops, Multirole, and high popularity in the community. however, this isn't on the list of planes due to lack of material.

F-15C: Satisfy the other half who don't fly the flanker. The F-15C and the Su-27 are "rivals" so to speak and releasing them together in one DCS module wouldn't be a bad idea!

MiG-29A: This fighter is FAMOUS! Exealent dogfighter. Modeling this Fighter would really boost DCS popularity.

My 2 cents

DCS Wishlist: 1) FIX THE DAMN RIVERS!!! 2) Spherical or cylindrical panorama view projection. 3) Enhanced input options (action upon button release, etc). 4) Aircraft flight parameter dump upon exit (stick posn, attitude, rates, accel, control volume, control-surface positions, SAS bias, etc). 5) ADS-33 maneuver courses as static objects. 6) Exposed API or exports of trim position and stick force for custom controllers. 7) Select auto multiple audio devices

If all the planned modules are completed (crossing fingers here) we should have a lifetime worth of accurate simulators ahead of us...

Regarding LOMAC, it have at least 2 or 3 years of ensured life, dont forget the multiplayer aspect, in LOMAC you can choose among several aircrafts/roles, for DCS to acomplish the same flexibility several years/modules will have to pass.
