Quick question: Something that has always bugged (pun intended) me about the Hornet's radar is found in something like this scenario:

I've got a flight of 3 or 4 bandits 20 ish miles off my nose. I want to fire an Aim120 at each by stepping through the tracks in TWS with the undesignate/nws button on the stick... but the bandits are so on top of one another that I cannot tell which track is being/has been designated. So, looks like a job for RAID. I go into RAID and can now clearly see the number of bandits and the one with the L&S star that I can fire upon... but I cannot switch L&S targets in RAID. If I press the undes/nws button to step, it takes me out of RAID mode.

Similarly, in RAID I can select L&S and DT2, but If I want to fire on the L&S and then swap the current L&S that I just fired on with the DT2, it doesn't swap but instead takes me out of RAID. Is this expected behavior?

In conclusion, I guess I'm asking if you can't step through TWS L&S tracks while in RAID or swap L&S and DT2 in the real aircraft?

I'll post a track when I get a chance.

Thanks.

If I understand correctly, that’s how it works. It would seem a good idea to be able to switch LS and DT2 within RAID but indeed the undesignate takes you out of RAID with the first press, then subsequent presses switch targets.

Well RAID is scanning around the L+S, and as such you can't change the L+S in RAID. What you probably want is the expanded view function labeled EXP in the bottom left of the format.

Use TDC. I haven't tested it in this OB build but I don't think anything has changed.  I used it successfully against 4 bandits.  Press TDC twice on a bandit to make it L&S then fire and go to the next one.

STT RAID is actually modeled wrongly in DCS. It's an older version. The version concurrent with MSI should not actually zoom in at all. SCAN RAID does, but RAID does not. You'd have to use EXPand for that as mentioned.

You should be able to change the L&S in STT RAID, but actually the STT target would stay the same. This is not really modeled right, but will hopefully be fixed when MSI is. Basically the L&S can be different from the STT target.

But yes, you would need to use the cursor to do all this since Undesignate will exit STT RAID/STT/SCAN RAID instead of stepping the L&S.

But we don't currently have the EXP option in the RDR ATTK format, do we? Or have I just missed it all this time?

Yea, it's there. The way this stuff works here, it's better to use EXP. You can cycle through bandits with undesignate button. The radar page centers around currently designated target.

In EXP you can keep the TWS in AUTO.

So, does EXP work in RWS and/or TWS? And must I have L&S target designated before it (EXP) can be boxed/selected? Thanks!

Only TWS and L&S has to be designated.  I tried to see if there was any difference in the way the contacts were separated when using EXP versus SCAN RAID... didn't see that much as far as spacing between the contacts.

BTW, just watched Wags' vid on new RAID modes. Looks like couple of things will change.

EXP SHOULD work in STT too, and it seems they put the pushbutton there despite being nonfunctional. The reason EXP is in STT is because of what I described above. The newer (newer as in newer, still quite old overall) STT RAID should not zoom in the display. So you have EXP there if you want to zoom in. Note TWS SCAN RAID is supposed to zoom in, and it does in DCS and works more or less right. EXP is inapplicable in SCAN RAID since jt does the same thing.
