Anyone building a dedicated controller for use with the copilot ATGM?

I think will be looking to build an aiming station.

based on mmjoy2 arduino, rack gears..

necessary mappings

Mi24

axis up down

axis left right

observer switch B2 on

observer switch B2 off

pylon select switch

gun unit power B1

radiation reset

aiming profile on/off

Zoom in

Zoom out

Center

Fire Shturm

Aiming Helper Arrow

SA342

Missile launch

axis up down

axis left right

Weapon power on

weapon power off

Lase button

VCB Zoom in

VCB Zoom out

Normal IR view

VCB mode

Vr camera controls fwd back up down center

more news to come.. wondering if there will be major controller changes to aiming station functionality in future updates

I plan to model the system from the missile selector dial all the way back to the main control panel. I will be modelling a head rest also for use with VR. The optic guidance controller will use Hall sensors for pitch and yaw, and be weighted to feel heavy and clunky too. This will be an additional module to swing into position when flying as Operator, to complement my main Pilot’s cockpit.

proof of concept of internals passes!

now on the heels of another project!

Joystick control is working as expected.

ED/DCS Team please get the aiming station monocle view functional in VR again!

I liked the MFD implementation better so far BEFORE DCS 2.7.5.10869 Open Beta

if the monocle wasnt stuck to my face, and i can look away from it, that would be better.. also, something between left and right eye is rendering weird, in which objects have depth, instead of "looking in to an eye piece.." which is happening in the current beta..

OVERALL..the co-pilot gunner ATGM function is toward a good direction.

This is just epic stuff bloke. Keep it coming!
Yeah, this is just one of the things I adore with this SIM, it barely scratches how people use it.

What distance between grips is planned on assembled station?

That's a good question. I wish I knew the actual aiming station dimensions.

At the moment I'm just going by the limits of my 3d printer limits. I plan the grips to to be 35mm thick.. the fixture body to be 90mm wide..so I'm think it's going to be around 5 inches...I'll know more later..at the moment I'm designing the fixture body

Thank you.

In russian forum section i was told that it is about 25cm ~10in. I found one more source, where i can potentially measure this distance. Need a few days to check it. I will let you know if i can measure it

I have some troubles guiding atgms with stick or mouse. Trying to build rude and simplified version of guidance joystick (only with 2 axis and 1 button)

any info is nice, but im just going at it, my intention is not to make a replica aiming station.

i have an ender 3 3d printer, so i cant go crazy in size.

i just want to build something functional.

mouse control of aiming station is still not clean. a regular joystick is ok, if you set work able axis tune settings.

lately, me and my friend @beestoopid have been getting owned by AAA in the huey.

im hoping to have the aiming station up to be useful in the hind, and go offensive against things other than soft targets.

my goal is to have this DIY work for multiple purposes... aiming the Hind ATGM and the Gazelle HOT-3 systems. and what ever future DCS modules present it self.

also this is a warm up to build the AH64 TEDEC controls...

I found this Hind in nearest town. Unfortunally it was locked and fully stripped from any equipment inside, so i made several external measures and roughly estimated desired width from top view photo (sorry for quality). Estimated value is 21-22cm

I tried several axis tunings, still have some troubles. Yesterday we found that in solo game with Petro as pilot the sight is not stabilized on my computer, maybe this is source of my problems))))

Good luck with aiming station building)

Thanks for researching.

how is your build going?

i feel like i am designing a fire hydrant...

I know exactly how to build it, drawn several concepts and bought all necessary parts (bolts, bearing units etc.)
Now i need to spend several hours with saw, drill, ruler and bolts to assemble main body
Here are my rudder pedals, assembled the same way (sorry for photo quality)

My aiming station is now coming out of the 3D printer, piece by piece. Here is a video of the individual parts in order of design, and to some extent assembly. One part is missing, the spring holder branch for the pitch axis, (I forgot it!). I may remake the video.

Designed in Fusion 360, and using screen grabs from DCS as well as a ton of reference. Axes sensors will be Halls driven by magnets in the 2 arms of each axis rotation.

i still have to draft the main support bracket, the wiring conduit etc, and of course the whole head-rest and optics tower, the switch panels and mount for the whole system.

WOWOWOWOWOWOWOWOWOWOWOWOwwwwwwwww

THAT IS AMAZING!!!!

Im happy someone else is building as well.

i should be printing soon, i just have to build a dry box first before i start.

I wish i wasnt so slow to design...i dont want to spend tons of time to make 1:1 copy... but i am very impressed with your work.

What are you planning to use for electronics? @molevitch?

Im either going to go mmjoy2 with arduino, or the leobodnar board....

@hannibalThanks for the compliments! Yours is very impressive too, and actually you motivated me to get on with mine. I love Fusion 360, am running it as a non-commercial, file limited application for free, and it is extremely intuitive and quick to develop with.

i will be putting this whole system on Arduino and DCSBIOS but that is a way off! I got stuck into the modelling of the unit as a challenge. I have run off a few parts of the mechanism, but you know how it goes with 3D printing…. Last night I left my printer running, and this morning I come down to find a large lump of solid plastic attached to the print head, but no parts of my controller. Oh well, start again…
