ATFLIR immediately creates TGT point and WPDSG + Undesignate issue.

Hi,

I've recently started to use the ATFLIR for the first time in a fair while. I’m seeing a couple of behaviours which seem counterintuitive to me, but wondered if these are indeed "normal". When I SCS right to select any mode, it seems that a TGT point is immediately created, before pressing WPT designate. As such if a waypoint is selected and WPT is boxed  in the HSI as soon as SCENE mode for example is selected in the ATFLIR the point under the cursor is automatically set as  a TGT point. Is this normal?  I don't ever recall the Lightening pod working this way, you had to WPDSG. Also, I've had some real issues undesignating, I can double pinky, and it just flips back to TGT mode in the HSI and won't undesignate.

Anyone else experienced this behaviour?

I have an issue after having designated a waypoint as TGT, the ATFLIR cursor wouldn't allow me to slew, even if the FLIR DDI is selected as PRI.  I recalled the Lightning Pod allows me to slew (to adjust) after target designation.

It allows you to slew in Scene or INR, at least it does for me, but the fact that it automatically designates and boxes TGT when in Scene or AUTO seems odd.

Same behavior here. I started to use HDG autopilot mode bevore using the ATFLIR pod, so I keep my desired heading.

I do not know, wether this TGP behavior is correct or not ... but it feels a little bit unusaual

I am in the process of learning the targeting pod but have been struggling a little as the available You Tube content doesn’t seem to reconcile with what I find is happening in the cockpit. I dismissed it and assumed I had missed some detail somewhere but my problems have centered around what is commented above. I will watch this thread for further developments.

TDC depress, not WPDSG it was with the Lightening.

This is still buggy. Switching the pod back to standby and turn it on again will fix this for now.

Thanks @Andartu I meant TDC depress then WPDSG was the "standard" workflow using the lightening. With the ATFLIR as soon as you slew it seems to effectively perform both for you whether you like it or not.  Thanks re the standby tip, I'll try that. I don't really want to go back to the lightening pod as most of the newer campaigns are equipping the ATFLIR so I'll ride it out.
