IcedVenom Posted August 13, 2021 Posted August 13, 2021 I just really want a Russian naval aircraft like Yak-38 or Su-33 that's full fidelity. Does anyone know if this is possible, or when it might be possible given they will have to abide by Russian law? I know they are working on MiG-29A but Su-33 isn't too far off is it?
Killshot0597 Posted August 13, 2021 Posted August 13, 2021 Mig-29 9-12 came into service in 1982, and the only conceivable reason we could even have a module of it was because it was exported over to Poland and East Germany. Su-33 came into service in 1998 and is only in service with Russia. I have high doubts we will ever get a FF Su-33 any time soon with how strict on military secrets the Russian government is. 2

Oh okay I understand. Thanks for the response. I will just have to wait patiently for a Yak-38 to hopefully come and if the MiG-29 ever does come, I hope Flaming Cliffs owners get a discount.
Dragon1-1 Posted August 13, 2021 Posted August 13, 2021 Su-33 is basically Su-27S with a tailhook and bigger wings, and Russia is looking to replace them. So maybe someday. However, I'd expect we'd see the Su-27S before that one. Perhaps they could even be made as a pack. Yak-38 is too obscure, I think. It wasn't a very good aircraft, anyway. Could be fun to fly, though. 1

He has expressed that his primary focus right now is working on his Yak-38 module so that it can become an official DCS product. The Yak-38 was quite a good solution to the Soviet Union's desire for a naval VTOL/STOL aircraft. It's much better than people think. But yes, I hope we can one day get a proper Su-27 FF module or possibly a Chinese Su-30MKK or what have you. MiG-29A is cool I guess, I just don't think it's gonna perform very well on the multiplayer servers it will be on. If it fought cold-war jets like Mirage 2000 and F-14A then it would absolutely be worth flying, but against F-16 with Aim-9X, I think people are going to be very disappointed.
Dragon1-1 Posted August 14, 2021 Posted August 14, 2021 Actually, against the AIM-9X it'll be a pretty good match, since it has HOBS missiles of its own. IRL, it would have wrecked any contemporary Western jet in a dogfight thanks to its HMS and the R-73. Flown right, it should be a superior dogfighter to the F-16C, because it's so lightweight and nimble (might actually be able to pull slightly more than 9G). The problem isn't the -9X, but the AMRAAM, since the MiG-29A doesn't carry the R-77.

It will take some time to release the MiG-29. I plan to fly it on proper late Cold War / Iraq-Iran war / Desert Storm timeframe missions and servers together with MiG-23MLA, MiG-21bis, Su-17, Su-25A, Su-27S, Mi-8, Mi-24 against F-14, F-15C, Mirage F.1, Mirage 2000, A-6 Intruder, A-7 Corsair, A-10A, F-5E, Huey, Gazelle, Bo-105 maybe Viggen. For sure not against 2007 Viper and Hornet - it would be a 25 years mismatch. Yak-38 would be a good ff module but Cuban Ace didn't make any ff before so I'm a bit sceptical for now. But i like how he chose declassified, historical, possible to model Yak-38 instead of some totally classified future something. Edited August 14, 2021 by bies 1
