Bungle_uk Posted February 24, 2005 Posted February 24, 2005 Well, point made SK. But could we maybe have just one or two of them, I think it would add a bit more emersion into the sim. I understand that it takes a lot of time and ultimatley money to do an airbase. Just would be nice thats all.
SwingKid Posted February 24, 2005 Posted February 24, 2005 Well, point made SK. But could we maybe have just one or two of them, I think it would add a bit more emersion into the sim. Huh? What do you mean "point made" and "but"? I am totally supportive of the idea and similarly desperate for some airbases outside Russian-friendly territory - so much so, I have been driven to hack my way to this goal. I thought you guys would be excited. -SK

SwingKid Posted February 27, 2005 Posted February 27, 2005 Downloadable replacement Razdolnoe.rn file to be unzipped into Bazar/Terrain/Vpp folder (remember to back up the original!): http://www.waves.utoronto.ca/~pavacic/lomac/theater/Razdolnoe.zip Hmm... Has anyone tried this mod? When you replace the Razdolnoe.rn file, does the Razdolnoe airbase icon in the Mission Editor actually move to the position of Merzifon? I find that if I have multiple installations of different versions of Lock On, I get very strange results... As if I somehow confused the original and modded files, but I can see that I didn't. -SK

Starlight Posted February 27, 2005 Posted February 27, 2005 I know it takes a much bigger work, but it would be nice to have new airbases AND to have them in NATO style. That is, western runways and TAB-V shelters, and NATO trucks. While you're flying NATO aircraft it's a bit "strange" to take off from Soviet style runways crowded with BTRs, Russian Fuel trucks and UAZ. That is, if LockOn was also inteded as a "Westernized" improvement over Flanker 2.5, the work is a bit incomplete. The airbases today are fantastic, but they are so until you fly with Russian aircraft :) Just to be a bore, there's one more thing to say. Many "spotters" reported that in many Soviet runways (I am mainly referring to those in the former DDR/GDR) there were smaller and older HAS, which were unable to store aircraft like the Mig-29, because they had been designed for Mig-21. So the larger Fulcrum simply didn't fit in! In LockOn instead all the airbases have the standard HAS which are large enough to accomodate even the F-15!

SwingKid Posted March 3, 2005 Posted March 3, 2005 Swing Kid presents... ...the first NATO airbase in ED product history: Merzifon, Turkey! Your friendly neighbourhood F-16C distributor. :D http://www.waves.utoronto.ca/~pavacic/lomac/theater/merzifon.zip EDIT: Link now points to a LoMan-compatible v1.00 Note: Back up the Bazar/Terrain/Onlay/High/Onlay_VPP.sup and Bazar/Terrain/Vpp/Razdolnoe.rn files to separate folders before unzipping to the Lock On folder. Improvements of version 0.02: - airbase runway and taxiway surfaces are now textured and visible both in the Editor and during the mission - airbase now usable by player aircraft - AI aircraft now take off as well as land, taxi and park Enjoy! 8) -SK P.S. This was a lot more work than v0.01... :?
D-Scythe Posted March 3, 2005 Author Posted March 3, 2005 Holy $hit, that's fantastic. Awesome work :) I just got one question probably everyone is asking: is this compatible with V1.1?
SwingKid Posted March 3, 2005 Posted March 3, 2005 I just got one question probably everyone is asking: is this compatible with V1.1? It was created with 1.1. I wasn't sure if it would work with 1.02. :) Does anyone know who is in charge of LoMan? -SK
D-Scythe Posted March 3, 2005 Author Posted March 3, 2005 Skypat. He can probably be reached at the French CheckSix site: http://www.checksix-fr.com
GGTharos Posted March 3, 2005 Posted March 3, 2005 Hey SK, how many files needed to be modified? Since 1.1 will be pushing files to the client, we can actually make this base exist online without people being forced to mod their own games for it. [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] Reminder: SAM = Speed Bump :D I used to play flight sims like you, but then I took a slammer to the knee - Yoda
Trident Posted March 3, 2005 Posted March 3, 2005 Now we're getting somewhere :D That's a real breakthrough SK!
USSR_Baikal Posted March 3, 2005 Posted March 3, 2005 Great work, Swing Kid! :) What ED will say about? But in 1.1 is too late... What about 1.2 ? :)
MBot Posted March 3, 2005 Posted March 3, 2005  Excellent work SK, that is a real breaktrough in LOMAC gameplay.
Alfa Posted March 3, 2005 Posted March 3, 2005 Great work Andrew! :D It works and looks very nice - this will definately come in handy for some interesting mission building in 1.1 :) . I took some screenies.. ...taking off.. ...just landed.. I canged the name of the airbase from "Razdolnoe" to "Merzifon" and it appears correctly in the debriefing ... ...and in the editor (here set as target).. ...but the F11 view still shows the original map position.. I think you can move the buildings to the new location(although I could imagine it will be alot of work) - but I wonder if it is possible to get the F11 view to show the new location? Anyway, great work so far....my compliments! :D Cheers, - JJ. JJ
SwingKid Posted March 3, 2005 Posted March 3, 2005 Thanks for the kind words and especially the testing! I'm glad to see Alfa was able to change the name too. I think you can move the buildings to the new location(although I could imagine it will be alot of work) - but I wonder if it is possible to get the F11 view to show the new location? Yes, I'm planning to move the buildings over for a later version, but this is a little more complicated. Fortunately, the F11 camera position and view direction are recorded in the Scenes file just like an ordinary building, so that should get moved over at the same time. Which file contained the airbase name? -SK

Do you mean that the F11 view is "slaved" to a building....the tower? Which file contained the airbase name? You can change the name of anything in the MEinit.xml....the airbases are listed at the bottom of the file :) Anyway, I have a couple of ideas I would like to throw at you - so expect a PM :) Cheers, - JJ. SwingKid Posted March 3, 2005 Posted March 3, 2005 I think Kovy and Ezechiel203 are working on a LoMan-compatible version now: http://elcapsimu1.free.fr/divers/merzifon_airbase.zip EDIT: link changed to Ezechiel's version http://www.checksix-forums.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=52869&st=0& If you would like to include the new airbase name Jens (and this file can be made compatible with 1.02/1.1), please let Kovy know and go ahead and add yourself and Kovy to the readme credits of the LoMan version... I don't know very much about LoMan and would happily invite any collaboration, while I am moving the buildings. Thanks for interest! -SK
SwingKid Posted March 3, 2005 Posted March 3, 2005 Do you mean that the F11 view is "slaved" to a building....the tower? No, it is an independent invisible object named "CAMERA" that just happens to be located 100 m or so above the tower. In theory we could probably put it anywhere, maybe even "inside" the tower control room, though I haven't tried that yet. I even set it as a target once - although, you can't do this with Lock On's own mission editor. You can change the name of anything in the MEinit.xml....the airbases are listed at the bottom of the file :) Hmm, I was afraid you'd say that. Unlike Razdolnoe.rn and Onlay_VPP.sup, MeInit.xml changes dramatically between different versions of Lock On. We would probably have to make different versions of the mod for different versions of Lock On to include the new name. Anyway, I have a couple of ideas I would like to throw at you - so expect a PM :) Standing by -SK
Alfa Posted March 3, 2005 Posted March 3, 2005 No, it is an independent invisible object named "CAMERA" that just happens to be located 100 m or so above the tower. Ahh yes ofcourse....otherwise the F11 view would show the tower and not an overview of the airfield(tsk..alfa  ) . In theory we could probably put it anywhere, maybe even "inside" the tower control room, though I haven't tried that yet. LOL....yes that was my first thought when I read your above bit about the "camera" thing.....the tower windows are transparent - if you fiddle a little with the CTRL+F11 view, you can get "inside" the tower(there is even a guy sitting there) - so if it is possible to move the F11 view to a position inside the tower it should actually work in terms of providing a "proper" tower view of the airfield(although perhaps a little dark...but I think that could be fixed too) :) Hmm, I was afraid you'd say that. Unlike Razdolnoe.rn and Onlay_VPP.sup, MeInit.xml changes dramatically between different versions of Lock On. We would probably have to make different versions of the mod for different versions of Lock On to include the new name. Hehe yes.....I thought this was the reason why you hadnt changed the name yourself - i.e. not including the MEinit of 1.1 ;) Cheers, - JJ. JJ
prov Posted March 3, 2005 Posted March 3, 2005 The kovy's file don't work but Ezechiel203 made a good loman file of this add-on. http://ezechiel203.site.voila.fr/forum/merzifon_airbase.zip This is an add-on I was waiting for a long time !!!
